Television actor Shivangi Joshi shared one of the most personal and painful moments of her life during the latest episode of Lock Upp 2. In an emotional conversation on the reality show, she revealed that she was molested as a child by a trusted family acquaintance whom she addressed as “mamaji.” The actor said she had carried the trauma with her for years before finding the courage to speak about it publicly.
Her revelation left fellow contestants visibly emotional as Shivangi described how someone her family trusted allegedly exploited that trust. She also credited the support of those around her on the show for helping her finally speak about an experience she had kept buried for a long time.
Shivangi Joshi Shares Painful Childhood Experience
During the episode, Shivangi explained that the man was considered a brother by her mother and was a regular presence in their lives. Because of that close relationship, her parents trusted him completely, especially during the period when she was preparing to pursue acting in Mumbai.
Recalling those memories, Shivangi said:
“Meri mummy ke muh-bole bhai the (He was like a brother to my mother). We used to call him mama ji, and he was a very reputed man. When the conversation was happening that now I will be leaving for Mumbai and I want to be an actor, he used that a lot. He was my uncle, so mumma also used to fully trust him. At that time, he used to tell my mom that he would pick me up from school. In the beginning, he used to tell me that since you are going to Mumbai for acting, you need to learn how to drive a car. He used to ask me to sit in his lap and hold the steering and move it, saying, ‘You will learn it.’ I used to sit in his lap, and mujhe samajh nahi aata tha ki kya ho raha hai (I didn’t understand what was happening) and with what intentions. I used to do it, but I didn’t like it, so I told him that I don’t want to learn it.”
The actor said she was too young at the time to fully understand what was happening, but she remembers feeling uncomfortable during those interactions.
She Described How Her Parents Intervened
Holding back tears, Shivangi went on to describe another incident that she said took place when her parents were away from home. According to the actor, the man came to the house and attempted to justify his behaviour by claiming she would need to be comfortable performing different kinds of scenes if she wanted to become an actor.
Sharing her account, Shivangi said:
“One day, my mom and dad had to go somewhere, so he came home at night. He then started telling me that if you are going to Mumbai, you will have to do different kinds of scenes. Then suddenly, he started holding me, and he told me that I needed to be prepared for all kinds of scenes. Then he kissed me on my forehead and then my cheeks, and when he tried to kiss me on my lips, I pushed him and mistakenly hit him. That angered him, and he threw me on the floor… I don’t know what would have happened that day, but by God’s grace, my mom and dad arrived. My dad heard me screaming; he came and saw that and beat the uncle, and then threw him out of the house. After that day, I couldn’t step out of the house for many days.”
The actor’s account highlighted the emotional impact the incident had on her childhood. She said the experience left her frightened and affected her confidence for a long period after it happened.
Emotional Moment On Lock Upp 2
Shivangi revealed that opening up publicly was not easy and said she drew strength from those around her before sharing her story. She mentioned that Ram Kapoor, Harshad Chopda and her fellow contestants encouraged her to finally speak about an experience she had kept private for years.
The latest episodes of Lock Upp 2 have also seen dramatic developments in the competition. Former contestants Harshad Chopda and Yogesh Rawat recently returned to the show after winning separate challenges against Sufi Motiwala and Dheeraj Dhoopar. Harshad later confronted Dheeraj over his earlier elimination, calling him “insecure” during a heated exchange.
