Fresh allegations have emerged against actor and musician Jared Leto following the release of a new BBC documentary that examines claims spanning more than a decade. Titled “Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret,” the documentary includes interviews with several women who accuse the Oscar-winning actor of inappropriate sexual conduct and misconduct dating back to the early 2000s. The allegations have drawn renewed attention to previous accusations that surfaced in recent years, while Leto has denied similar claims in the past.
The BBC documentary reportedly features accounts from 10 women, with the broadcaster stating that nine of them are speaking publicly for the first time. None of the allegations reported in the documentary have resulted in criminal charges, and Leto has not been found liable in court in relation to these claims.
BBC Documentary Details Multiple Allegations
According to the BBC, four women accuse Leto of conduct that they say took place while they were teenagers. One woman alleges she was assaulted in a motel bathroom when she was 17 years old. Another claims Leto threatened her with sexual assault when she was 19.
A third woman alleges she had a sexual relationship with Leto in California when she was 17, below the state’s age of consent at the time. She claims the actor “shrugged off” a discussion about the legal age of consent being 18. Meanwhile, another woman alleges Leto made repeated sexually explicit phone calls to her when she was 16 and, on one occasion, suggested they have sex.
The documentary also includes allegations from four additional women who claim they received what they described as “strange and often very sexual” phone calls from Leto while they were younger. According to the BBC, all of the alleged incidents occurred between 2002 and 2016, when Leto was in his 30s and 40s.
One woman featured in the documentary says, “This was 25 years ago… he has gotten away with it.”
BBC Says It Reviewed Supporting Material
The broadcaster says it examined evidence intended to support several of the women’s accounts. According to the documentary, the BBC corroborated parts of the allegations through conversations with friends and family members who were told about the alleged encounters at the time. It also says it reviewed photographs and messages that it believes support portions of some accounts.
The documentary further reports that one woman was presented with a non-disclosure agreement that would have prevented her from discussing her alleged relationship with Leto. According to her account, she declined to sign the agreement.
In addition, two former employees associated with Thirty Seconds to Mars, Leto’s rock band, appear in the documentary. They claim members of the band’s staff were uncomfortable with the actor’s interactions with teenage girls, alleging he sometimes invited them backstage or to the house where recording sessions were taking place.
One former staff member says, “I think everyone thought the age gap was way too big.”
Previous Claims Have Also Drawn Attention
The BBC documentary is not the first time allegations involving Leto have surfaced publicly. In 2025, Los Angeles DJ Allie Teilz accused the actor of sexual misconduct, alleging he assaulted her when she was 17 years old. Her allegations prompted additional women to publicly share similar claims.
More recently, Air Mail published a report in which nine women accused Leto of inappropriate behaviour over several years. Leto denied those allegations.
Following publication of the BBC documentary, Variety reported that it had contacted representatives for Jared Leto seeking comment on the latest allegations. At the time of publication, no response had been reported.
The documentary arrives amid continued scrutiny of misconduct allegations involving high-profile figures in the entertainment industry, where media investigations have increasingly encouraged individuals to come forward with claims they say remained private for years. As with previous cases of this nature, the allegations against Leto remain claims, and he has previously denied similar accusations.
