Rashmika Mandanna has announced that she is supporting 400 families through a grocery assistance initiative called Project Annapurna. The actress revealed that her character Jayamma in the upcoming film Ranabaali, starring Vijay Deverakonda, encouraged her to share a charitable effort she had previously kept private.
Rather than making a one-time donation, Rashmika plans to provide groceries to 400 families at a time for three months each, continuing the initiative over the next year.
What Is Rashmika Mandanna’s Project Annapurna?
The initiative aims to reduce household grocery expenses, allowing families to save money for other needs and plan their finances better.
Project Annapurna reportedly covers eight locations across South India, including Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, Vijayawada, Mahabubnagar, Anantapur and Kodagu. Essential supplies include rice, wheat flour, pulses, cooking oil and other everyday necessities.
Importantly, Rashmika’s use of the word “adopted” refers to financial and grocery assistance rather than legal adoption.
How Ranabaali’s Jayamma Inspired Rashmika
Explaining why she decided to make the initiative public, Rashmika wrote on Instagram, “if this could influence you lovelies out there to do anything like this.. I would be happy.”
She also explained that helping others has always been important to her, something she recognises in Jayamma’s personality.
Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, Ranabaali explores a fictional story of resistance against British colonial rule during the devastating Great Madras Famine of 1876–78.
The film, scheduled for theatrical release on October 16, 2026, reunites Rashmika and Vijay Deverakonda following Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade.
Through Project Annapurna, Rashmika has connected the themes of her upcoming film with a practical initiative focused on everyday food security.
