Is Vijay’s Jana Nayagan a Bhagavanth Kesari Remake? Anil Ravipudi Finally Reacts

Ever since H Vinoth’s Jana Nayagan went on floors, one question has refused to die down — is Thalapathy Vijay’s final film a remake of Anil Ravipudi’s 2023 hit Bhagavanth Kesari? While the Tamil film’s team has stayed tight-lipped, Ravipudi has now responded to the speculation, choosing his words carefully and keeping the mystery intact.

“Let’s treat it as a Thalapathy Vijay film”

When asked directly whether Jana Nayagan is a remake of Bhagavanth Kesari, Anil Ravipudi avoided giving a straight yes-or-no answer. Instead, he made it clear that the makers want the focus to remain on Vijay.

According to him, director H Vinoth has already stated that Jana Nayagan should be seen purely as a Thalapathy Vijay cinema, at least until audiences watch it on the big screen. Ravipudi added that it would be unfair to label the film anything — remake or otherwise — before its release.

Ravipudi on Vijay and the film’s timing

The director also revealed that he met Vijay during the shoot of Varisu (2023) and described the star as a “superb gentleman.” With Jana Nayagan being Vijay’s last film before entering full-time politics, Ravipudi feels the film deserves to be judged on its own terms.

He stressed that once the film releases, everything will become clear — whether it borrows ideas, adapts a storyline, or stands entirely on its own.

H Vinoth addresses remake chatter

Director H Vinoth has previously spoken about the growing speculation and acknowledged that some viewers may assume the film is a remake and feel hesitant about watching it. His message to them was simple: watch one show.

Vinoth has maintained that audiences don’t need to worry about whether the film is inspired by something else or not. According to him, the film will answer all questions once it unfolds on screen.

Not the first time the rumours surfaced

This isn’t the first instance where Jana Nayagan has been linked to Bhagavanth Kesari. Earlier this year, producer VTV Ganesh claimed at an event that Vijay had watched Bhagavanth Kesari multiple times and wanted Ravipudi to direct its Tamil remake — a claim the director later denied, saying no such statement was made by him.

Ravipudi had then reiterated that discussions did happen with Vijay regarding his final film, but scheduling and process-related issues meant nothing was finalised or announced.

Cast, release date, and what we know so far

Bhagavanth Kesari starred Balakrishna, Sreeleela, Kajal Aggarwal, and Arjun Rampal, while Jana Nayagan features Vijay, Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, and Bobby Deol in key roles.

The film is slated for a Pongal release on January 9, 2026, making it one of the most anticipated Tamil releases of the year — and an emotional farewell for Vijay’s film career.

Final words

Whether Jana Nayagan is a remake, an adaptation, or something entirely new remains a closely guarded secret. For now, both Anil Ravipudi and H Vinoth are united on one point — don’t judge the film before watching it. With Vijay’s final outing carrying immense emotional and political significance, the makers seem confident that the film will speak for itself once the curtains rise.
