Wednesday Season 3 has officially finished filming, and Netflix marked the milestone in the most appropriate way possible: with Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams sitting at her typewriter.
Production wrapped on September 30, 2026, with Netflix Tudum unveiling a new still of Ortega in character, seated at a desk and writing. Netflix cheekily described the moment by saying Wednesday was “writing what she woes,” but the image itself does more than celebrate the end of filming. It reinforces one of the character’s defining traits while Netflix continues to keep the actual Season 3 plot tightly guarded.
The wrap also means the third season has now moved into post-production, bringing the series another step closer to returning after Season 2. Netflix has not announced a premiere date yet.
The new photo is simple, but very Wednesday
Netflix could have marked the production wrap with a large ensemble image or a first look at one of Season 3’s many new cast members.
Instead, it went back to Wednesday herself.
The newly released photo shows Ortega at a typewriter, which fits neatly with the character’s long-established habit of writing and documenting the morbid world around her. Netflix’s Tudum update used the photo as “photographic evidence” that production had ended, while also teasing that Wednesday is clearly not suffering from writer’s block.
It is a relatively restrained first look, but that may be intentional. Season 3 is bringing several major additions to the Addams family universe, yet Netflix is still revealing very little about how those characters fit into the story.
What has been confirmed is that filming once again took place around Dublin, while production also extended to Paris, suggesting that Season 3 will push Wednesday beyond Nevermore Academy more than before.
Season 3 will dig deeper into the Addams family
The biggest confirmed creative direction is not a new monster or mystery. It is the family.
Co-creator Alfred Gough said the goal is to continue “digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday.” Miles Millar added that viewers will see more Addams family members and learn more family secrets in the new season.
That promise already lines up with the casting.
Eva Green is joining as Ophelia Frump, Morticia Addams’ sister and Wednesday’s aunt, one of the more mysterious members of the extended Addams family. Netflix has described Ophelia as “missing,” immediately making her a potentially important piece of the next season’s mythology.
Green is not the only significant new addition.
Season 3 will also bring in Winona Ryder, Lena Headey, Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, James Lance, Andrew McCarthy, Oscar Morgan and Kennedy Moyer. Ryder’s casting is particularly notable because it reunites her with both Ortega and Tim Burton after Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Burton, who remains a director and executive producer on the series, said the new season feels “extra special” because it reunites him with several longtime collaborators, including Ryder, Green, Sarandon and Taylor.
Season 2 already left Wednesday with unfinished business
The third season is also inheriting a very specific problem from the Season 2 finale.
Wednesday ended the previous chapter heading out with Uncle Fester to rescue Enid Sinclair after Enid became trapped in her alpha-werewolf form. That storyline gives Season 3 an immediate emotional and narrative thread before any new mystery is introduced.
Netflix is still refusing to say exactly how that rescue mission develops.
Millar has teased that Season 2’s ending deliberately left “a nice breadcrumb” leading into Season 3, but when Tudum asked for more plot details, the showrunner joked that revealing anything else would require burying the interviewer in a shallow grave.
That secrecy is consistent with how Netflix has handled the series since its debut.
The streamer renewed Wednesday for Season 3 even before Season 2 premiered, a major vote of confidence in a show whose first season remains Netflix’s most-watched English-language series of all time.
Season 2 also performed strongly, with its first four-episode half drawing 50 million views in its first five days and eventually landing among Netflix’s most-watched titles.
When could ‘Wednesday’ Season 3 arrive?
The production wrap is encouraging, but Netflix is not attaching a release date to it yet.
Tudum explicitly says the creators are staying silent on both further plot details and the premiere date.
That means any specific 2027 release month being circulated elsewhere should still be treated as unconfirmed until Netflix makes it official.
For now, the meaningful update is simpler: principal photography is complete, post-production can fully take over, and Netflix has started the next phase of marketing with a very in-character image of Wednesday Addams doing what she does best — writing something probably unpleasant.
The typewriter photo may not reveal much about Season 3’s actual story, but paired with the expanded cast, Paris filming and promises of deeper Addams family secrets, it does suggest the show is preparing to widen its world rather than simply repeating another mystery at Nevermore.
