Actor-turned-politician Vijay, founder of the party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), addressed a large gathering of supporters in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday as part of his ongoing political campaign. However, the event was overshadowed by an accident involving several of his supporters.
According to police officials, five fans sustained injuries after multiple motorcycles collided while they were following Vijay’s convoy on the way to the rally venue.
How the Accident Happened
The incident occurred when a large number of fans began following Vijay’s vehicle from Tiruchirappalli airport to the public meeting location at Ayyasamipatti in Sengipatti village.
As the convoy approached the venue, three students riding separate motorcycles reportedly collided with each other while trying to move forward in the crowd of vehicles.
Police confirmed that one of the riders suffered serious injuries, while the others sustained minor injuries.
In a separate incident later that day, two more supporters were injured while returning home after attending the rally, bringing the total number of injured fans to five. All the injured individuals were taken to a private hospital for treatment, according to officials.
Vijay Addresses Supporters at the Rally
Despite the incidents, Vijay continued with his scheduled public meeting and delivered a speech to party workers and supporters.
During the rally, the TVK leader appealed to the people of Tamil Nadu to support him in the upcoming elections. He described the election not just as a political event but as something deeply emotional for him and his supporters.
Vijay said that for many of those who believe in his leadership, the election represents “an ocean of emotions” rather than a routine political contest.
He also emphasized that politics should not revolve around personal gain or financial interests but should focus on public service and improving people’s lives.
Key Promises Made in His Speech
During the meeting, Vijay outlined several welfare promises aimed particularly at farmers and rural communities.
Among the proposals he mentioned were:
- Complete loan waivers for farmers owning up to five acres of land
- Financial support for the education of farmers’ children
- Measures aimed at improving fishermen’s safety
- Commitments toward transparent and corruption-free governance
These promises are part of TVK’s early political messaging as the party prepares for upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu.
A Reminder of Last Year’s Karur Tragedy
The accident in Thanjavur has also brought back memories of a tragic incident during one of Vijay’s earlier political gatherings.
In September last year, a massive crowd had gathered for Vijay’s “Velicham Veliyeru” campaign rally in Karur, which turned chaotic when people rushed toward the stage barricades to get a closer look at the actor-politician.
The situation quickly escalated into what authorities described as a stampede-like crush. Several attendees fainted amid the rush, and the tragedy eventually claimed the lives of 41 people while injuring around 100 others.
The shocking incident sparked nationwide discussions about crowd management and safety during large political gatherings.
Final Words
While Vijay’s rally in Thanjavur drew significant attention from supporters, the accidents involving his fans highlight the risks that can arise during massive political gatherings. As the TVK chief intensifies his campaign across Tamil Nadu, ensuring better crowd control and public safety will likely remain an important concern.
For now, the injured supporters are receiving treatment, while Vijay continues to push forward with his campaign and political outreach across the state.
