Sony Pictures has released a new trailer for Jumanji: Open World, offering another look at the next adventure starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan. This time, the danger is no longer limited to the jungle or the game itself. Jumanji is breaking free of its console and unleashing chaos in the real world.
The film is being billed as the final installment of the modern Jumanji trilogy, following Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019). Director Jake Kasdan returns to bring the franchise’s familiar blend of action, comedy and video-game madness to the big screen one last time.
What Happens in the Jumanji: Open World Trailer?
The new trailer begins with the holiday season before the video-game world starts spilling into reality. The familiar avatars, played by Johnson, Hart, Black and Gillan, find themselves outside the game, while Spencer and the people around him become caught up in the increasingly unpredictable adventure.
The footage features the franchise’s signature body-swapping chaos, with characters forced to navigate unfamiliar identities and situations. But the stakes appear higher than ever: the game’s rules are no longer safely contained within a virtual world.
One line from the trailer captures the danger ahead: “If we lose in here, there won’t be a home to go back to. No reset. No second chance.”
That shift gives Open World a fresh direction. The previous films sent ordinary people into a dangerous game, where their avatars provided both extraordinary abilities and plenty of comic complications. Now, the characters must deal with the consequences of Jumanji entering their own world.
Dwayne Johnson and the Original Cast Return
Alongside Johnson, Hart, Black and Gillan, the returning cast includes Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner and Ser’Darius Blain. Nick Jonas, Danny DeVito and Awkwafina are also part of the ensemble.
Kasdan directs from a screenplay written with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, continuing the creative team behind the previous two reboot films.
The modern Jumanji movies have built their appeal around the chemistry between the lead actors, inventive action sequences and jokes rooted in characters inhabiting bodies that do not match their personalities. The new trailer suggests those elements remain central, even as the story expands beyond the game.
The franchise also carries a legacy stretching back to the 1995 film starring Robin Williams, based on Chris Van Allsburg’s children’s book. The reboot trilogy reimagined the original board-game premise as a video-game adventure.
Jumanji: Open World is scheduled to arrive exclusively in theatres on December 25, 2026. With the game threatening to overtake reality, the final countdown has begun for the franchise’s next big-screen adventure.
