The trailer for Bandar has finally dropped, and honestly, it looks exactly like the kind of chaotic, uncomfortable world audiences expect from Anurag Kashyap. Dark, messy, morally twisted, and emotionally exhausting in the best possible way. After the teaser hinted at something gritty and psychologically disturbing, the full trailer now dives much deeper into the story of fame, scandal, self-destruction, and public judgment. This also marks the first collaboration between Kashyap and Bobby Deol, which alone was enough to create curiosity around the project long before the trailer arrived.
At the center of the film is Bobby Deol playing Sameer Mehra, a washed-up rockstar desperately trying to hold onto relevance while everything around him quietly collapses. The trailer introduces him in full celebrity mode — flashy clothes, oversized sunglasses, expensive parties, and the confidence of someone who still believes he owns every room he walks into. But beneath that polished image, the film quickly reveals a deeply unstable and morally broken man. In one particularly uncomfortable scene, when a woman questions why someone like him even needs dating apps, Sameer casually describes himself as “a terrible and creepy person,” almost like he’s fully aware of the darkness inside him but doesn’t care anymore.
The trailer also makes it clear that Sameer’s obsession with validation and desire has completely blurred his moral boundaries. Several sequences show him endlessly swiping through dating apps without concern for anything except appearance, hinting at the ugly mindset slowly consuming him. That hollow celebrity lifestyle becomes the emotional backbone of the trailer before the story suddenly shifts into something much darker halfway through.
Bobby Deol’s Character Faces Sexual Assault Charges In The Film
Things spiral out of control after Sameer is arrested on sexual assault charges following allegations made by a woman played by Sapna Pabbi. From that point onward, the trailer almost completely changes tone. The glamorous celebrity world disappears, replaced by police investigations, prison violence, media chaos, and emotional paranoia. Even while being dragged away in handcuffs, Sameer continues insisting that he’s innocent and claims the entire situation is part of a setup against him.
One interesting detail in the trailer is the appearance of Sanya Malhotra as Sameer’s sister. Instead of emotionally defending him blindly, her character seems frustrated and brutally honest about his behaviour, even calling him an idiot at one point. That small glimpse already hints at complicated family dynamics hiding underneath the public scandal. And honestly, that emotional toxicity feels very much in line with the kind of morally grey storytelling Anurag Kashyap usually explores.
A large portion of the film also appears to unfold inside prison walls. The trailer ends with a disturbing montage of Sameer getting beaten by inmates, sitting alone in isolation, and aggressively working out inside his jail cell almost like he’s preparing himself mentally for survival. Those final moments leave behind a strange sense of discomfort instead of excitement, which is probably exactly what Kashyap intended.
‘Bandar’ Brings Together A Strong Team Behind The Camera Too
Apart from the cast, one reason Bandar is generating serious interest is the writing team behind it. The film is written by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee, the same creative minds associated with acclaimed projects like Paatal Lok, Kohrra and Udta Punjab. That connection alone explains why the film already feels socially tense, emotionally layered, and deeply unsettling even from just the trailer.
The ensemble cast also includes names like Raj B Shetty, Saba Azad, Riddhi Sen, Jitendra Joshi and Nagesh Bhonsle. Produced under Nikhil Dwivedi’s Saffron Magicworks banner, the film is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on June 5, 2026.
After the massive impact Animal had on Bobby Deol’s career, Bandar honestly looks like another attempt to push him deeper into darker, psychologically intense characters. But unlike the loud commercial violence of Animal, this one feels much more raw, uncomfortable, and emotionally ugly — exactly the kind of territory Anurag Kashyap usually thrives in.
