The stormy romance at the heart of Wuthering Heights didn’t stop when the cameras did. Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi say their connection on Wuthering Heights formed fast — and ran surprisingly deep.
In a new cast interview, the two stars opened up about how quickly their dynamic clicked while working on Emerald Fennell’s bold new take on Emily Brontë’s classic novel — and why that closeness felt almost unavoidable.
“I Get So Co-Dependent on Set”
Robbie, who plays Catherine Earnshaw, didn’t hold back when describing how she bonds with co-stars.
“I’m so co-dependent with people I work with,” she admitted, adding that she often feels devastated when a project ends. According to Robbie, that emotional attachment formed “quite quickly” with Elordi, who stars opposite her as the brooding Heathcliff.
That closeness even manifested in unexpected ways during the early days of filming.

Robbie recalled that during the first few days on set, Elordi was almost always nearby — quietly observing her performance.
“He’d just be in the vicinity where I was,” she said, joking that he lingered like Heathcliff himself, watching Catherine from a distance.
Director Emerald Fennell quickly jumped in to clarify, laughing, “I didn’t tell him to do that. I actually had to ask him to leave.”
But by Day 3, the dynamic flipped.
Robbie said she found herself scanning the set to locate Elordi — and when he wasn’t there, she felt strangely unsettled. “I felt quite lost,” she admitted, likening it to a child without a comfort blanket.

Elordi, 28, leaned into the honesty, calling their dynamic a “mutual obsession.”
“If you have the opportunity to share a film set with Margot Robbie,” he said, “you’re going to make sure you’re within five to ten meters at all times.” He added that watching Robbie work — even during mundane moments — was a masterclass in acting.
“She’s just an elite actor,” Elordi said, without hesitation.
Capturing Brontë’s Ghost on the Moors
The cast also spoke about filming in the English countryside, where the atmosphere played a major role in shaping performances. To set the mood, they reportedly played Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights while shooting on the Moors.
Elordi described the experience as almost spiritual — embodying characters whose tragic love has lingered in cultural memory for more than 200 years.
“It felt like we were catching little pieces of that unrequited love,” he said, reflecting on sunsets, silence, and the emotional weight of Brontë’s story.

The film is co-produced by Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment, the banner behind Barbie and Saltburn. Robbie produces alongside her husband Tom Ackerley, with whom she welcomed a baby boy in October 2024.
The ensemble cast also includes Shazad Latif, Hong Chau, Alison Oliver, Charlotte Mellington, and Owen Cooper, rounding out what’s shaping up to be one of the most talked-about literary adaptations of the year.
