Prime Video has just lifted the curtain on Daldal, and if the first teaser is anything to go by, the upcoming crime thriller is not for the faint-hearted. Released on Friday morning, the teaser opens with a blunt warning — viewer discretion advised — and then plunges straight into a nightmare of blood-soaked imagery and psychological dread.
Fronted by Bhumi Pednekar, Daldal is already being described by viewers as one of the most disturbing Indian series in recent years.
Daldal Teaser: Violent, Silent, and Unsettling
Clocking in at just 60 seconds, the Daldal teaser contains no dialogue, yet manages to leave a lasting impact. The visuals are raw and deeply unsettling — flashes of brutal killings, graphic disfigurement, and a killer whose signature involves violently placing objects inside his victims’ mouths.
Bhumi is seen as a police officer relentlessly tracking the murderer, while the teaser cuts between scenes of gore and fleeting glimpses of her character’s past trauma. One striking image shows her imagining herself back in a school uniform, hinting at unresolved psychological scars.
The teaser closes with Bhumi staring directly into the camera — calm, shaken, and quietly terrifying.
What Is Daldal About?
According to the official logline, Daldal is set in Mumbai and follows Rita Ferreira, the newly appointed DCP of the Mumbai Crime Branch. As a sadistic serial killer begins leaving behind horrifying crime scenes, Rita finds herself drawn into a dangerous psychological game where survival is just as important as solving the case.
Alongside Bhumi Pednekar, the series also stars Samara Tijori and Aditya Rawal in key roles.
Online reactions have been swift and intense, with many viewers calling the teaser “deeply disturbing.” Some have even compared its tone and atmosphere to Paatal Lok and international crime dramas like True Detective.
Prime Video on Pushing Boundaries
Speaking about the series, Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of Originals at Prime Video India, said Daldal aims to go beyond conventional crime storytelling.
According to him, the series isn’t just about uncovering who committed the crime, but digging deeper into why — exploring trauma, vulnerability, and resilience as core themes woven into the narrative.
Release Date, Creators, and Source Material
Daldal is based on Bhendi Bazaar, a bestselling novel by Vish Dhamija. The series is created by Suresh Triveni and produced by Vikram Malhotra under Abundantia Entertainment.
Direction is handled by Amrit Raj Gupta, while the writing team includes Triveni, Sreekanth Agneeaswaran, Rohan D’Souza, Priya Saggi, and Hussain Haidry.
The series is set to premiere on Prime Video on January 30.
Final Words
With its wordless teaser, disturbing imagery, and Bhumi Pednekar in an intense new avatar, Daldal is clearly positioning itself as a no-compromise crime thriller. It looks grim, uncomfortable, and emotionally heavy — exactly the kind of show that could spark strong reactions on both sides.
If the series delivers on the promise of its teaser, Daldal could become one of the most talked-about Indian thrillers of the year — for all the right (and unsettling) reasons.
