Tanushree Dutta Calls Nana Patekar’s Death ‘Positive Development’

Tanushree Dutta has once again sparked controversy over her reaction to Nana Patekar’s death, describing the news as a “positive development in my life” while sharing a video from her visit to the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain. The actress, who accused Patekar of sexual harassment during India’s #MeToo movement, also expressed hope that the difficulties she believes have affected her life would finally come to an end.

In an Instagram post shared following her temple visit, Dutta credited Lord Mahakal with protecting her through what she described as years of suffering. She also made fresh allegations against Patekar and people associated with him, claiming they had subjected her to harmful spiritual practices and conspiracies. These claims have not been independently substantiated.

Her remarks come three days after Patekar died of a cardiac arrest in Goa on October 8, 2026, at the age of 75.

Tanushree Dutta Prays at Mahakal Temple After Nana Patekar’s Death

Sharing a video of herself offering prayers, Dutta described her visit as particularly meaningful because it happened shortly after Patekar’s death.

She expressed hope that the people and circumstances she believes have caused her suffering would no longer affect her life, writing that she wanted “all the evils of my life die off one by one.”

However, the actress also questioned whether reports of Patekar’s death were genuine, despite confirmation from his family and medical authorities. There is no credible evidence supporting her doubts about the reported death.

Her lengthy Instagram caption also contained troubling statements about not wanting to continue living under the circumstances she described. Those remarks raise concerns about her well-being and should not be reduced to another celebrity controversy.

The latest post follows several strongly worded statements from Dutta since Patekar’s death. Earlier, she described him as “evil dead,” prompting criticism from the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA), which called her remarks insensitive and inappropriate.

The Controversy Brings Their #MeToo Dispute Back Into Focus

Dutta’s reaction is closely connected to allegations she made against Patekar in 2018, concerning an alleged sexual harassment incident during the filming of Horn ‘OK’ Pleassss in 2008. Patekar denied the accusations.

Mumbai Police filed a closure report in 2019 after finding insufficient incriminating evidence. In March 2025, a Mumbai court declined to proceed with the complaint because it had been filed beyond the applicable limitation period. The court did not determine whether the alleged 2008 incident was true or false.

While AICWA condemned Dutta’s comments, singer Sona Mohapatra and actress Sandhya Mridul defended her right to discuss her alleged experiences, arguing that someone’s death should not automatically erase disputed accounts of past misconduct.

Dutta’s latest statements have introduced another dimension to that debate. Her right to express her perspective on the past is distinct from the unverified accusations and doubts about Patekar’s death contained in her recent post.

For now, the actress continues to stand by her account, while the controversy surrounding her reaction has become a renewed public discussion about grief, accountability and the importance of distinguishing personal allegations from established facts.
