Cara Delevingne’s surprise appearance in Taylor Swift’s Patient Zero video arrived during an important week of her own.
Just two days before Swift premiered the video at the 2026 MTV VMAs, Delevingne released her 12-track debut album, Not Normal. Now, the model, actor and newly minted recording artist says she has no intention of treating music as a one-off experiment.
Speaking exclusively to Variety India during Paris Fashion Week, Delevingne said she has “so many plans” following the album’s release.
“I think that journey is only going to change, get better and grow,” she said.
Cara makes a surprise appearance in Patient Zero
Delevingne’s cameo was not part of the initial marketing for Swift’s Patient Zero video.
CBS and MTV originally announced Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell as its featured stars, with Swift directing. When the full video premiered during the September 27 VMAs, however, viewers discovered several additional appearances—including Delevingne.
The gothic video centers on Farrell and Johnson as a couple whose troubled relationship is haunted by the memory—and eventually literal presence—of Farrell’s deceased former partner, played by Swift. Delevingne appears briefly as another woman connected to Farrell’s character.
It is a small role, but not a particularly surprising collaboration considering Delevingne and Swift’s long friendship.
The more interesting timing is that the cameo arrived just as Delevingne was asking audiences to see her in another creative role altogether.
Not Normal marks a real shift toward music
Not Normal was released through Warner Records on September 25 and contains 12 tracks, including “I Forgot,” “Out of my Head,” “Need It” and “Crazy, Baby.” Delevingne’s official website now places music alongside her other creative work rather than presenting the album as a side project.
Delevingne told Variety India that making the record had been a long process because music was something she had wanted to approach seriously rather than simply capitalize on her existing celebrity.
She also explained that becoming a musician has changed the way she thinks about having her own voice. After years spent modeling and acting—professions that often require interpreting someone else’s creative vision—writing music gave her an opportunity to define what she wanted to say herself.
That makes Not Normal an interesting addition to a career that has repeatedly changed direction.
Delevingne first became internationally known through fashion before moving heavily into acting with projects including Paper Towns, Suicide Squad, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and Only Murders in the Building. Music has always existed somewhere around that career—she even recorded “I Feel Everything” for Valerian in 2017—but Not Normal is her first full-length album.
Stevie Nicks is one of Cara’s musical inspirations
Asked who inspires her, Delevingne singled out Stevie Nicks on the music side while also praising figures including Viola Davis, Jane Fonda, Helen Mirren and Gillian Anderson for their wider careers and advocacy.
That mix says something about where Delevingne appears to be heading.
She is not talking about abandoning acting or fashion for a sudden pop-star reinvention. Instead, music is becoming another part of a career she increasingly seems interested in shaping on her own terms.
There is no formally announced second album or follow-up project yet, so her comments should not be read as confirmation that another record is already scheduled.
What she is confirming is the intention to continue.
The Patient Zero cameo may have put Delevingne back in front of millions of Taylor Swift fans for a few seconds, but Not Normal represents the more significant development for her own career.
