After the success of Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, the actor is now heading into another unusual love story, but this time things are getting even more chaotic. The new project, directed by Badhaai Ho and Maidaan filmmaker Amit Sharma, mixes relationship drama with science-fiction comedy in a way Bollywood rarely attempts properly.
The upcoming film reportedly revolves around a married couple who are already on the edge of separation when a failed scientific experiment suddenly changes their lives completely. Instead of dealing with lawyers or emotional confrontations, the couple ends up swapping bodies and gets forced to live through each other’s routines. That bizarre setup becomes the heart of the comedy, but the emotional side seems equally important since the story eventually pushes both characters to understand each other in ways they never did before.
What makes the project more interesting is that the concept reportedly carries shades of the Italian film Husband & Wife, though the Bollywood adaptation is expected to add its own flavour, humour, and emotional layering. Amit Sharma’s films usually balance lighthearted storytelling with grounded emotional moments, and insiders say this film will continue that style rather than becoming a loud over-the-top sci-fi comedy. The makers apparently want the film to feel relatable despite the fantasy setup, which honestly could help it stand apart from formula-driven romantic comedies releasing these days.
For Shahid Kapoor, this also feels like a smart continuation of the space he unexpectedly found success in with Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. That film leaned heavily into futuristic romance involving AI and robotics, and audiences connected with its weird-but-emotional energy more than many expected. Interestingly, this new project arrives at a time when Maddock Films is already developing a sequel to TBMAUJ, showing how sci-fi rom-coms are quietly becoming a fresh trend in mainstream Hindi cinema.
The female lead, however, has still not been finalized officially. Reports suggest the producers are currently in talks with Kiara Advani and Janhvi Kapoor for the role opposite Shahid. If Kiara joins the project, it would mark her reunion with Shahid after the blockbuster success of Kabir Singh, a pairing that still carries huge audience recall. On the other side, Janhvi Kapoor opposite Shahid would be a completely fresh onscreen combination, which could also create strong curiosity among younger viewers.
The film is reportedly aiming to begin production sometime in late 2026 with a theatrical release planned around mid-2027. Even though that is still far away, the project is already generating conversation mainly because Bollywood hasn’t explored many body-swap romantic comedies with large-scale commercial actors in recent years. Most rom-coms lately either play too safe or lean heavily into nostalgia, so a film trying something absurdly fun while keeping emotional depth intact could actually work in its favour.
Meanwhile, Shahid’s schedule remains packed with major projects. The actor is currently busy shooting the second season of Farzi for Prime Video India, where he returns as Sunny alongside Vijay Sethupathi, Kay Kay Menon, Raashii Khanna and Bhuvan Arora. The first season became one of the platform’s most talked-about Indian thrillers, so expectations around the follow-up are naturally very high. Apart from that, Shahid will also appear in Cocktail 2 directed by Homi Adajania. The film stars Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon alongside him and is currently scheduled to release in cinemas on June 21, 2026.
