After Maa Inti Bangaaram Success, Samantha Seeks More Women Superstars

The strong theatrical run of Maa Inti Bangaaram has given Samantha Ruth Prabhu another reason to celebrate, but the actress believes the industry’s bigger victory will come only when more women-led films receive the same level of backing as projects headlined by male stars. Fresh off the success of her comeback film, Samantha has spoken about why female actors continue to face an uneven playing field despite delivering commercially successful movies. According to her, the problem isn’t talent or audience support, but the lack of long-term investment in building women into bankable superstars.

Speaking to Variety India, Samantha reflected on the changing landscape of Indian cinema and explained why consistent support from filmmakers is essential if the industry wants to create more female-led blockbusters. Her comments come at a time when Maa Inti Bangaaram has emerged as one of the biggest commercial successes among women-led Telugu films.

Samantha Says Female Stars Deserve the Same Long-Term Investment

When asked about the continued gap in pay, opportunities and working conditions for actresses, Samantha said the rise of male superstars didn’t happen overnight. She pointed out that years of planning, collaborations and carefully chosen films helped build their larger-than-life image, something she feels female actors rarely receive.

“It’s one step at a time. I’ve always said this: male superstars are not made in a day. Time and effort have gone into building larger-than-life male superstars. With every film, with every director working so hard to build this god-like status. It has taken time.”

The actress believes the same commitment should now be extended to women in the industry. Rather than expecting actresses to become major stars after just one successful film, she argued that producers and directors need to nurture their careers over several projects.

“I feel that effort and time is not given to female stars. If directors and producers put that effort into building an actress into a superstar, it will be possible. We just need that time and investment.”

Over the past few years, female-led films across Indian cinema have started attracting stronger audience support, but large-scale commercial successes remain relatively uncommon compared to male-driven entertainers. Samantha’s latest comments reflect an ongoing conversation within the industry about creating more opportunities for actresses to headline mainstream theatrical releases.

Maa Inti Bangaaram Continues Its Impressive Box Office Run

Directed by B. V. Nandini Reddy, Maa Inti Bangaaram marked Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s return to the big screen after a brief break and quickly connected with both critics and moviegoers. Produced by Samantha alongside Raj Nidimoru and Himank Reddy Duvvuru under the Tralala Moving Pictures banner, the film also features Gulshan Devaiah and Diganth Manchale in key roles.

The movie opened with a solid ₹4.85 crore on its first day before maintaining steady collections over the following days. Within two weeks, Maa Inti Bangaaram crossed ₹50 crore at the Indian box office while its worldwide collection moved beyond ₹80 crore, making it one of the biggest Telugu successes led by a female actor. The film also overtook the reported lifetime worldwide earnings of Anushka Shetty’s Arundhati, making it the highest-grossing women-led Telugu film to date.

The film’s success has already encouraged the makers to expand the story. During a success event held in Visakhapatnam, producer Raj Nidimoru confirmed that a sequel is now being planned.

“I already have an idea in my mind. The same team will work on it. For the first time, I am inspired to make another part. It will have double the fun and double the excitement. I will come back and tell you more about it later.”

A Special Chapter for Samantha On and Off Screen

The success of Maa Inti Bangaaram carries even greater significance for Samantha beyond its box office numbers. Alongside celebrating one of the biggest hits of her career, the actress is also entering a new phase in her personal life. Samantha and Raj Nidimoru are expecting their first child, and reports suggest she is likely to take a maternity break after completing her current commitments.

For Samantha, the film has become more than just another commercial success. It has strengthened the case for women-led cinema while also giving fresh momentum to discussions about how female stars are promoted in the industry. Whether producers respond to her call remains to be seen, but Maa Inti Bangaaram has already shown that audiences are willing to support strong stories led by women when they receive the right platform.
