Ranbir Kapoor and Yash’s much-awaited Ramayana has received a PG-13 rating in the United States, while international theatre listings reveal a substantial runtime of 3 hours and 15 minutes. The development comes as director Nitesh Tiwari’s mythological epic prepares for its worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026.
The film, also promoted internationally as Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, stars Ranbir as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana.
Why Did Ramayana Receive a PG-13 Rating?
The Motion Picture Association (MPA) assigned the film a PG-13 classification for “sequences of strong violence and action, and some bloody images.”
The rating suggests that the adaptation will feature intense battle sequences, with parents advised to consider whether the content is appropriate for younger children.
However, PG-13 does not prohibit children under 13 from attending. India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has yet to confirm the film’s domestic classification.
Will Ramayana Have Two Different Runtimes?
While IMAX and American theatre listings indicate a 195-minute duration, reports suggest that the English-language version could run approximately 165 minutes.
AMC listings previously showed separate Hindi and English versions, raising questions about whether international audiences will receive different edits.
The reported 30-minute difference could involve songs and interval arrangements, although the filmmakers have not officially explained the variation.
If confirmed, Ramayana would become Ranbir’s second film exceeding three hours, following Animal (2023), which ran for approximately 201 minutes.
Produced by Namit Malhotra, the two-part epic features music by A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer, with its second instalment planned for Diwali 2027.
With the international promotional campaign underway, the final certified runtimes and differences between language versions remain important details to watch before release.
