Netflix has released the first official trailer for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, offering a spectacular look at Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s beloved fantasy world. Unveiled on October 13, 2026, the footage introduces Daniel Craig as the mysterious magician Andrew Ketterley, Emma Mackey as Jadis and Meryl Streep as the voice of Aslan.
Set to Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven, the trailer combines magical landscapes, unusual creatures and striking cosmic imagery. Unlike previous Narnia films, Gerwig’s adaptation explores how the enchanted world first came into existence.
Narnia Trailer Introduces Daniel Craig’s Magical Rings
The trailer begins with Andrew Ketterley introducing magical rings capable of transporting people between different worlds.
The story follows two children, Digory Kirke (David McKenna) and Polly Plummer (Beatrice Campbell), whose discovery of the rings leads them into extraordinary adventures.
Their journey takes them through the Wood Between the Worlds and introduces them to Jadis, the powerful sorceress who eventually becomes the White Witch.
The footage also features fantastical landscapes, strange creatures and a flying horse, suggesting an ambitious visual approach to Lewis’s mythology.
Meryl Streep’s Aslan Makes a Spectacular Appearance
One of the trailer’s most memorable moments involves Aslan, the lion responsible for creating Narnia.
Rather than immediately showing him as a traditional talking animal, Gerwig presents Aslan through an enormous, star-filled silhouette.
The character roars but does not speak in the trailer, meaning audiences have yet to hear Streep’s full interpretation.
Gerwig previously explained that she was fascinated by Lewis’s idea of “a cosmic lion singing the world of Narnia to life.”
Interestingly, the filmmaker personally approached Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant and Jimmy Page to secure permission to use Stairway to Heaven.
Why The Magician’s Nephew Is Different From Earlier Narnia Films
Published in 1955, The Magician’s Nephew explains Narnia’s creation and the origins of several important elements introduced in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Although it was the sixth Narnia novel published, its events occur first chronologically.
This makes Gerwig’s film a different starting point from the earlier adaptations, which began with the Pevensie children’s discovery of the wardrobe.
Narnia Release Date: Theatrical and Netflix Premiere
Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew will open worldwide in cinemas and IMAX on February 12, 2027, with exclusive IMAX previews beginning February 10.
The film will subsequently arrive on Netflix on April 2, 2027.
The theatrical rollout marks a significant departure from Netflix’s traditional streaming-first strategy, giving Gerwig’s fantasy adventure a substantial big-screen release.
With the first trailer now available, audiences have their clearest look yet at how the Barbie filmmaker intends to bring the origins of Narnia to life.
