Belmont Cameli is moving from the hockey romance of Off Campus into a considerably darker love triangle.
The actor has joined Sydney Sweeney in Sony Pictures’ Hollow, playing Brom Bones in a new interpretation of Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Sweeney stars as Katrina Van Tassel, while the filmmakers are still casting the third major piece of the story, Ichabod Crane.
The casting is particularly interesting because Hollow is not simply remaking the familiar Headless Horseman story. Writer-director Lindsey Anderson Beer is rebuilding it around Katrina, transforming a character traditionally positioned between two competing men into the protagonist of her own gothic mystery.
Cameli will play Brom Bones — but this version could be different
In Irving’s 1820 story, Brom Bones is the strong, confident local rival competing with the nervous schoolmaster Ichabod Crane for Katrina’s attention.
Hollow keeps those basic relationships but changes the point of view.
Beer’s story will follow Katrina as the central figure in a dangerous mystery and supernatural love triangle, blending gothic horror with psychological and erotic-thriller elements. The movie is based on Beer’s own forthcoming debut novel, also titled Hollow, which Putnam plans to publish in fall 2027. Beer will adapt her book for the screen as well as direct.
That means Cameli’s Brom may ultimately have more to do than simply function as Ichabod’s romantic competition. Exactly how the character has been reworked remains under wraps, and Sony has not yet revealed who will play Ichabod.
The casting does, however, complete two-thirds of the central triangle: Sweeney’s Katrina and Cameli’s Brom are now in place.
Hollow arrives just as Belmont Cameli breaks out with Off Campus
For Cameli, Hollow comes at a useful moment.
He plays hockey star Garrett Graham opposite Ella Bright’s Hannah Wells in Prime Video’s Off Campus, the adaptation of Elle Kennedy’s popular romance novels. Amazon says the first season reached 36 million viewers worldwide during its first 12 days, making it Prime Video’s third most-watched series debut behind only The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Fallout.
Cameli is already back working on Off Campus Season 2, although the new season shifts its primary romantic focus toward Allie and Dean while Garrett and Hannah remain part of the ensemble.
Hollow therefore gives him an immediate opportunity to move outside the romantic-lead image that Off Campus has created.
It will not be his first genre film. Cameli also appeared in Sony’s Until Dawn and Warner Bros.’ The Alto Knights, but playing Brom opposite Sweeney in a studio-backed reinterpretation of such a recognizable literary story could substantially raise his film profile.

Sweeney is not simply starring in the movie.
She will produce Hollow through Honey Trap, the production company she recently launched under a first-look deal with Sony Pictures. The project will be Honey Trap’s first film as producer. LuckyChap and Beer’s Lab Brew banner are also producing.
That gives Hollow an added significance in Sweeney’s career. Katrina is a recognizable literary character, but this version specifically rewrites the story so that she is no longer merely the woman Brom and Ichabod are competing to marry.
It also puts Sweeney in the position of helping shape the project as both lead actor and producer.
Sony has not yet announced an official theatrical release date, and with Ichabod Crane still uncast, Hollow remains in the process of assembling its principal ensemble.
Cameli’s arrival nevertheless makes the creative direction clearer. For viewers who discovered him as Garrett Graham, the next step could be quite a switch: from Briar University’s hockey rink to one of American literature’s most famous haunted towns.
