After the film became a surprise box office sensation, the actress says she has spent much of her time meeting with filmmakers and producers about potential future projects. One of those conversations happened to be with Marvel Studios, instantly fueling speculation that she could eventually join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Speaking on Variety’s Up Next podcast, Navarrette revealed she recently sat down with director Jake Schreier, who is developing Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot. While she didn’t confirm that a role was offered or that she’s officially involved with the project, the meeting has naturally caught fans’ attention as Marvel prepares to introduce a new generation of mutants after the Multiverse Saga concludes.
Jake Schreier’s Marvel Vision Left a Strong Impression
Navarrette explained that she grew up watching Fox’s original X-Men films, making the opportunity to meet Schreier especially meaningful. Rather than discussing casting details, she focused on what impressed her most about the filmmaker’s recent work on Thunderbolts. According to the actress, Schreier captured the kind of emotionally driven storytelling she remembers enjoying in Marvel’s earlier films.
“I thought what Jake brought to ‘Thunderbolts’ was what I used to love about Marvel,” Navarrette said. “It was character-driven, and the whole time I just couldn’t stop yapping about how much I appreciated what he did with Marvel.”
Even so, Navarrette was careful not to suggest that the meeting guarantees anything. She explained that many of the conversations she’s having today are simply opportunities to connect with filmmakers whose work she admires, rather than immediate casting discussions. As her profile continues to rise after Obsession, those meetings have become part of exploring what comes next in her career.
Reflecting on her recent experiences, she added, “That’s kind of the luxury I have right now, meeting all these different kinds of people. Not all of those meetings turn into projects, but sometimes it’s just, ‘I really want to work with you. I’ve seen this project, and this one, and this one.'”
Marvel’s X-Men Era Is Getting Closer
Marvel Studios is steadily laying the foundation for its long-awaited X-Men reboot. Before introducing a completely new team, several beloved actors from Fox’s original franchise are set to return in Avengers: Doomsday, including Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique. Their return is expected to serve as a bridge before Marvel launches a younger roster of mutants in the years ahead.
Following Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, Marvel is widely expected to refresh its cinematic universe with new versions of iconic characters. Jake Schreier’s X-Men film is anticipated to play a major role in that transition, introducing fresh faces while building on the franchise’s long history. Reports have also pointed to Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey, recently introduced in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as a key figure in Marvel’s mutant future.
Although Navarrette remained tight-lipped about any possible casting discussions, she did reveal which mutant has always stood out to her. “I mean, Mystique has always been super cool,” she said, offering fans just enough to spark fresh speculation online. Whether the comment was simply admiration for one of Marvel’s most recognizable mutants or a subtle hint at her dream role remains unknown.
For now, there is no confirmation that Navarrette has joined the MCU. Still, her meeting with the filmmaker leading Marvel’s next X-Men chapter has only intensified curiosity about where the rising star could fit into the studio’s future plans.
