After a promising start over the weekend, Parasakthi has hit its first major speed bump at the box office. The Sivakarthikeyan-led period political thriller witnessed a steep drop on its first Monday, bringing its three-day India total to around Rs 25.6 crore.

Monday slowdown hits hard

On Day 3, Parasakthi collected approximately Rs 3 crore, marking a nearly 70% fall from its Sunday numbers. The drop is significant, especially considering the film’s strong opening momentum over the weekend.

The film opened on Saturday with Rs 12.5 crore, followed by a solid Rs 10.1 crore on Sunday. While the opening day remains the film’s highest single-day collection so far, the sharp Monday decline has raised early questions about weekday sustainability.

According to trade estimates, the film’s total domestic collection now stands at Rs 25.6 crore after three days.

A strategic release — but not without risks

Directed by Sudha Kongara, Parasakthi opted for a Saturday release instead of the traditional Friday opening. The move was meant to avoid a direct box office clash with Jana Nayagan, the H Vinoth-directed action thriller that was being projected as Vijay’s final film.

However, Jana Nayagan’s release was eventually postponed after certification issues with the CBFC, giving Parasakthi a relatively open release window during the Pongal corridor — at least initially.

How Parasakthi compares to Sivakarthikeyan’s recent films

Despite its solid opening day, Parasakthi now stands as Sivakarthikeyan’s lowest-performing opener in recent years when compared to his recent releases.

His 2024 sci-fi action comedy Aayalaan, directed by R Ravikumar, collected Rs 13.95 crore over its first three days — nearly half of Parasakthi’s three-day total, but with stronger weekday legs.

Meanwhile, Sivakarthikeyan’s last two major pan-India outings set a much higher benchmark:

  • Amaran (directed by Rajkumar Periasamy): Rs 61.55 crore in three days
  • SK 23: Rs 48.15 crore in three days

That said, Parasakthi has still outperformed Sudha Kongara’s previous directorial venture in Hindi — Sarfira, starring Akshay Kumar — which earned only Rs 12 crore in its opening three days.

CBFC cuts and a tightly packed release window

The road to release wasn’t smooth for Parasakthi either. The film reportedly faced CBFC-related hurdles until the final hours, with the makers eventually agreeing to 25 cuts to retain their planned Pongal release date.

While the absence of Jana Nayagan initially worked in the film’s favour, competition hasn’t entirely eased. The Tamil market continues to feel pressure from The Raja Saab, starring Prabhas. The film has already collected Rs 113.40 crore across languages in four days, although its dubbed Tamil version has contributed a modest Rs 1 crore so far.

Performances vs box office momentum

Parasakthi stars Sivakarthikeyan in a politically charged, period-driven role, with Sreelala as the female lead. While early audience feedback has appreciated the film’s intent, scale, and performances, the weekday dip suggests that word-of-mouth may not be translating strongly enough beyond the initial rush.

Final words

With Rs 25.6 crore in three days, Parasakthi has managed a respectable opening, but the steep Monday fall signals caution. The real test now begins — whether the film can stabilise during the weekdays and regain momentum over the next weekend. With political themes, certification controversies, and stiff competition in play, Parasakthi’s box office journey is shaping up to be far more unpredictable than its opening suggested.
