Filmmaker Shailendra Singh has shared an unusual memory from one of his meetings with Salman Khan, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the actor’s commitment to maintaining his on-screen image. Recalling the incident years later, Shailendra described watching Salman calmly continue eating biryani while undergoing a hair treatment at his Mumbai residence. The filmmaker admitted he was completely taken by surprise by what he witnessed, only learning later what the procedure actually involved.
The anecdote has sparked fresh conversations about the pressures of stardom and the lengths celebrities sometimes go to in order to maintain their appearance. While cosmetic and hair restoration treatments have become increasingly common in the entertainment industry, Shailendra said the experience left a lasting impression on him.
Shailendra Singh recalls unusual meeting with Salman Khan
Speaking to Cyrus Broacha, Shailendra remembered visiting Salman Khan at Galaxy Apartments for a meeting during the period when the actor regularly hosted Monday night gatherings. According to him, Salman was seated at the dining table enjoying biryani while facing a mirror, something Shailendra found unusual at first.
Recalling the moment, he said, “I went to Salman for a meeting at his place in Galaxy Apartments. In those days, we used to have Monday night parties. He was sitting at the dining table, eating, and looking at himself in the mirror. He likes to eat while looking in the mirror. There’s a small table in the kitchen with a mirror in front, so you’re sitting next to him, but you’re actually talking through the mirror.”
Shailendra then described how the meeting took an unexpected turn when another person entered the room carrying medical equipment.
“There’s a price to pay to be a star,” Salman said
According to Shailendra, a man wearing gloves walked in, took out a syringe and began injecting Salman’s scalp while the actor continued eating without interruption. The filmmaker admitted he had no idea what was happening and watched the entire procedure unfold through the mirror.
He recalled, “He’s sitting there eating biryani, you know Salman, he enjoys his food, especially after a few drinks. Suddenly, this strange-looking guy walks in, puts on gloves, takes out a needle and starts injecting his scalp. I’m watching all of this in the mirror and thinking, ‘What the f is going on here?’ He (Salman) just said, ‘There’s a price to pay to be a star, bro.’ He kept eating while the treatment continued.”*
Shailendra added that he only discovered later that the procedure was Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, a treatment that uses a person’s own blood plasma and is widely used in many countries to help manage certain forms of hair loss. He claimed he was told the procedure involved injecting plasma into Salman’s scalp and that it was repeated several times a year. Shailendra also remarked that he believed the treatment was not permitted in India at the time, although he did not elaborate further.
