The industry and fans were a little surprised when Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, was awarded an ‘A’ certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Considering the film’s songs and promos didn’t carry typical adult themes, the rating left many wondering what prompted the decision.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Harshvardhan shared his composed outlook on the matter, saying he’s long stopped worrying about things beyond his control.
“Worry, complaint, crib — I’ve removed these three things from my life,” he said with a laugh. “When we got an ‘A’ rating or even fewer screens, I didn’t complain. I just tried to understand why. Maybe the authorities felt some themes in the film didn’t fit our culture — and that made sense to me. No problem.”
“12 Actors Rejected It Before Me”
Rane also revealed that Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat came to him only after several actors had turned it down.
“You’ll never hear me saying I’m under pressure,” he explained. “In my case, sab ka chhoda hua role mere paas aata hai (laughs)! Around 12 actors rejected Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat before it came to me. Same thing happened with Taish, Haseen Dillruba, and Paltan. I’ve always believed what’s meant for you finds its way — so I never complain.”
His statement reflects a rare calmness in an industry known for its competitive hustle. Instead of dwelling on setbacks, Rane embraces every opportunity as part of his journey.
His Bond With John Abraham
One of the constants in Harshvardhan’s career has been his friendship with John Abraham, who also promoted Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat extensively. Their connection goes way back — to a time when Rane was working as a courier boy and delivered a package to John.
“I still feel like that delivery boy standing in front of John with a helmet in hand,” Rane recalled. “Even today, I lower my gaze when I speak to him. I don’t even call him a friend — he’s more than that. Our equation has been the same for 21 years.”
He added that John went out of his way to support the film:
“He usually keeps a low profile, but for Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, he promoted it wholeheartedly. And you can tell when something comes from the heart — it wasn’t forced. That’s his greatness. I’ll never be able to repay that.”
Despite the film’s adult rating and modest screen count, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has continued to find an audience — and much of that credit goes to Rane’s sincerity and perseverance.
