This comes at a crucial moment in the case. Just days earlier, Judge Lewis Liman dismissed 10 out of Lively’s 13 claims against Baldoni, his Wayfarer Studios team, and associated PR members. Her focus has now narrowed to what she believes is the core issue — allegations of a calculated online smear campaign designed to damage her reputation ahead of It Ends With Us.
Interestingly, the court didn’t reject her sexual harassment claims based on merit but rather on technical grounds like jurisdiction and contractual limits. That distinction matters, and it’s part of why the case is still very much alive.
Behind the scenes, efforts to avoid a public trial have been ongoing for months. Since late 2024, both camps have been nudged toward settlement multiple times. Even before this latest round of talks, signs were clear that things weren’t moving toward resolution. Baldoni’s legal team had already admitted earlier this year that negotiations were going nowhere. Monday’s failed discussions only confirmed that reality.
Lively, on her part, has also gone public with her mindset. In a recent statement, she urged people not to get distracted by what she called a “digital soap opera,” while reaffirming her intent to fight back against systems that silence or discredit individuals. It’s a strong stance — and one that suggests she’s prepared for a long legal fight.
With both sides digging in, the case is now set to move toward trial on May 18. What started as a behind-the-scenes dispute tied to a film project has evolved into a high-profile legal clash involving reputation, power, and public narrative.
