Jack Lowden Calls James Bond Rumours ‘Very Flattering’

Jack Lowden has finally addressed the growing speculation that he could become the next James Bond, calling the attention “very flattering” while refusing to confirm whether he is being considered for the iconic role. The Slow Horses actor spoke about the rumours in a new interview with British GQ, as the search for Daniel Craig’s successor reportedly enters its final stages.

Lowden, 36, has been among the names linked to the next 007 for months. However, he made it clear that he does not want to fuel the conversation, even as his profile continues to rise following his work in the Apple TV+ spy drama.

“It’s all very flattering. It’s nice to be mentioned – for any role – and I’m just not really going to add to the noise,” Lowden said.

The actor also acknowledged that speculation about Bond often follows performers who fit a certain screen image. “As a young male actor, generally, the minute you’re not playing a zany artist type, the minute you’re in a suit, people fling it at you,” he added.

Gary Oldman’s Support for His Co-Star

Lowden also responded to comments from his Slow Horses co-star Gary Oldman, who publicly expressed hope that he would land the role. Oldman had suggested in a September interview that producers had already chosen the next Bond, while saying he was keeping his fingers crossed for Lowden.

“It’s very nice, and Gary’s a sweetheart – it’s particularly lovely, coming from someone like him. But I don’t really listen to it,” Lowden said.

Oldman later clarified his remarks, explaining that he had heard a rumour about a casting decision but did not know who had been selected. His comments were not confirmation that Lowden had secured the part.

Who Is Still in the Race to Become James Bond?

Lowden’s name gained further traction after The Hollywood Reporter reported in October that he and Callum Turner were among actors expected to take part in final screen tests. Josh O’Connor was also reportedly offered a test, alongside an unnamed fourth candidate.

None of these reports has been confirmed by Amazon MGM Studios, which took creative control of the Bond franchise in 2025. The studio has announced Denis Villeneuve as director of the next film, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writing the screenplay.

Daniel Craig’s five-film run as Bond ended with No Time to Die in 2021. The next instalment is currently planned for a 2028 theatrical release, although the studio has not officially announced its new leading actor.

Lowden’s Bond Future Remains Unconfirmed

Lowden’s experience playing MI5 agent River Cartwright in Slow Horses has made him a natural candidate in fans’ eyes, but the actor’s comments offer no confirmation that he has been cast or even reached the final stage.

For now, the Bond speculation remains just that. With the franchise preparing for its next chapter, an official announcement from Amazon MGM Studios will be the moment that finally settles the question of who takes over the famous tuxedo.
