The Walking Dead universe is about to become much easier for fans to binge. In a major streaming shake-up, AMC Global Media and Netflix have reached a massive new licensing agreement that will bring every series in the zombie franchise under one shared global deal. The agreement not only extends Netflix’s long-running relationship with the franchise but also marks a historic first for AMC+, giving the company’s own streaming platform access to the original series.
Valued at $500 million over five years, the co-exclusive licensing deal covers the flagship The Walking Dead series along with all six of its television spinoffs. Once existing licensing agreements expire across different regions, viewers around the world will gradually see the franchise arrive on both Netflix and AMC+ beginning in 2027.
Every Walking Dead Series Included In The Deal
The agreement spans the complete television universe, giving audiences access to a total of 371 episodes across seven series. Alongside the original The Walking Dead, the package includes Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, The Walking Dead: Dead City, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, The Walking Dead: World Beyond and Tales of the Walking Dead.
According to AMC Global Media, each title will become available at different times depending on the country, as current streaming agreements conclude in individual territories. That means the rollout won’t happen simultaneously worldwide, but the long-term goal is to make the entire franchise available through the new partnership.
The agreement also expands Netflix’s availability of The Walking Dead into several international markets, including the United Kingdom, Italy, Australia and New Zealand. For fans outside the United States, it represents another opportunity to watch the franchise through one of the world’s largest streaming platforms.
AMC+ Finally Gets The Original Series
One of the biggest developments is that AMC+ will finally stream the original The Walking Dead series for the first time. Although AMC produced the show, the flagship drama has remained absent from its own streaming platform because of earlier licensing arrangements. The new agreement changes that, allowing AMC+ subscribers to watch Rick Grimes’ journey alongside the franchise’s growing collection of spinoffs.
Netflix, meanwhile, has been the exclusive streaming home for The Walking Dead in the United States since 2011. The renewed partnership ensures the zombie drama remains on the platform while expanding access to the broader franchise. Instead of moving exclusively to one service, the shared licensing model gives audiences greater flexibility in how they watch the series.
Netflix And AMC Celebrate Expanded Partnership
Commenting on the announcement, Netflix Vice President of Licensing Lori Conkling highlighted the franchise’s long-standing success on the platform. She said, “Audiences have discovered and loved The Walking Dead on Netflix for nearly 15 years and the show continues to attract new fans. We’re excited to partner with AMC Global Media to continue to expand that access to more audiences around the world and bring the entirety of The Walking Dead Universe to Netflix.”
AMC Global Media CEO Kristin Dolan also welcomed the expanded collaboration, calling it an important milestone for the franchise. She said, “We are thrilled to expand our long-time partnership with Netflix around The Walking Dead. This deal creates a global destination for this universe – all shows, all episodes – making the franchise more accessible than ever to fans around the world. In addition, the co-exclusive agreement allows us to bring the original series to AMC+ for the first time early next year. Netflix has been an important partner in making The Walking Dead one of the most successful franchises in the history of entertainment. This agreement is a fantastic result for our companies, for the fans and for this timeless IP.”
Originally premiering in 2010, The Walking Dead evolved from a single post-apocalyptic drama into one of television’s biggest franchises. Over the years, it has expanded through multiple companion series, character-focused spinoffs and new stories set within the same universe. This latest streaming agreement ensures that the complete saga will become easier than ever for longtime fans to revisit while introducing a new generation of viewers to one of modern television’s most successful franchises.
