Jack Reacher is not packing up his toothbrush anytime soon.
Prime Video has officially renewed Reacher for Season 6, even though Alan Ritchson’s fifth season has yet to premiere. The early pickup follows another major ratings run for the Lee Child adaptation and effectively guarantees at least two more seasons of Reacher walking into towns where somebody inevitably makes the mistake of underestimating him.
Amazon says Season 4 attracted 66 million viewers worldwide during its first 28 days, surpassing Season 3 and becoming one of the five most-watched seasons of any Prime Video original series. The franchise has now reached more than 200 million viewers globally since launching in 2022.
Reacher Season 6 is official, but the story is still secret
Prime Video confirmed the Season 6 renewal on September 28, with Amazon MGM Studios television chief Peter Friedlander describing Ritchson as inseparable from the role.
“Alan Ritchson is Jack Reacher,” Friedlander said while celebrating the show’s continued global performance.
That is about as much as Amazon is revealing about Season 6 for now.
The streamer has not announced which Lee Child novel will be adapted, who will join Ritchson in the cast or when production will begin. There is also no Season 6 release window yet.
That secrecy is not unusual for Reacher. Each season generally adapts a different novel and introduces a largely new supporting cast around Ritchson, allowing Amazon to keep future stories under wraps until the preceding season is closer to release.
What is unusual is just how early the decision has arrived.
Prime Video renewed Season 5 before Season 4 premiered, and now Season 6 has been ordered before audiences have even seen Season 5.
Season 5 will adapt Make Me
Unlike Season 6, the next chapter is already taking shape.
Season 5 will adapt Make Me, the 20th novel in Child’s Jack Reacher series. The story begins when Reacher gets off a train at the oddly named town of Mother’s Rest and becomes involved with private investigator Michelle Chang, who is searching for a missing colleague. The investigation gradually exposes something far more dangerous beneath the town’s quiet exterior.
New cast members include Amanda Ip as Michelle Chang, Jay Baruchel as Chief Buck Bauer, Ciara Bravo as Eunice and Kevin Durand as Nokes. Ritchson will again lead as Reacher.
Prime Video has not yet announced a Season 5 premiere date.
That makes the Season 6 renewal particularly confident: Amazon is committing to another story before it has even begun marketing the next one to viewers.
Reacher is becoming bigger than one series
The renewal also arrives as Amazon expands Reacher beyond Ritchson’s main show.
Neagley, starring Maria Sten as Frances Neagley, premiered on Prime Video on September 16. Ritchson also appears in the spinoff as Reacher, establishing it as part of the same television universe rather than a disconnected adaptation.
That gives Amazon something it did not have when Reacher premiered four years ago: an actual franchise.
The main series can continue moving through Child’s novels, while characters strong enough to operate independently can potentially branch into their own stories.
There is certainly no shortage of material. Child’s Reacher bibliography contains more than two dozen novels, meaning the television series could continue for years without immediately running out of books to adapt.
The bigger question may eventually be how long Ritchson wants to maintain the physical demands of the role. For now, however, he has also strengthened his relationship with Amazon MGM Studios through a three-year first-look television deal announced earlier this year.
So while Season 5 still has to make its way to screens, Amazon has already made one decision very clear.
Reacher Season 6 is happening.
The only mystery now is which Lee Child book he will walk into next.
