Rocking Star Yash’s birthday celebration last week was meant to be a cinematic high point — but it has unexpectedly snowballed into controversy. The teaser of his upcoming film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups grabbed massive attention for its dark, stylised visuals, only to draw criticism from a section of viewers over what they’ve termed “objectionable content.”
Now, as the debate intensifies, an old interview of Yash has resurfaced online — and it’s adding fuel to an already heated discussion.
The teaser that sparked outrage
The teaser for Toxic opens in an eerie graveyard, where Yash dramatically arrives at a funeral in a car, before launching into slick, high-octane action. However, a brief visual of Yash sitting inside the car with a woman before his character is formally introduced as Raya has not gone down well with everyone.
Soon after the teaser dropped, the Aam Aadmi Party filed a complaint with the Karnataka State Commission for Women, alleging that the teaser contained obscene and explicit visuals.
AAP’s complaint and cultural concerns
In the formal complaint, AAP state secretary Usha Mohan reportedly argued that the teaser’s content was inappropriate for public circulation. The letter claimed the scenes could harm the social well-being of women and children, lacked age-related warnings, and disrespected Kannada culture by allegedly portraying women in a degrading manner.
The complaint has now pushed Toxic into the middle of a cultural and moral debate — even before its release.
Yash’s old interview resurfaces
Amid the controversy, a clip from Yash’s earlier appearance on the Kannada talk show Weekend With Ramesh has gone viral. In the interview, hosted by Ramesh Aravind, Yash had once stated:
“I won’t do any movie scenes that I wouldn’t feel comfortable watching with my parents.”
The resurfaced statement has triggered mixed reactions online, with some users questioning whether Toxic contradicts his earlier stance.
Fans rally behind Yash
While a section of social media users trolled the actor, a much larger group rushed to his defence. Many fans argued that perspectives evolve with time, careers grow, and actors are allowed to explore darker, more complex roles as they mature.
Comments under the viral clip reflected this sentiment, with users pointing out that changing ideals over 10–15 years is natural. Others stressed that acting in a fictional scene does not equate to endorsing its moral implications, and that rejecting a film over a single teaser moment is unfair.
Several fans also highlighted that Toxic is clearly positioned as a gritty, adult-themed narrative — not a family entertainer.
About Toxic and its big release clash
Directed as a stylised action drama, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups also stars Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, and Nayanthara in key roles.
The film is slated for a theatrical release on March 19, where it is set to clash with Dhurandhar 2, starring Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna — making it one of the most anticipated box office battles of the year.
Final words
With just a teaser out, Toxic has already ignited conversations around creative freedom, cultural sensitivity, and evolving stardom. Whether the controversy fades or escalates further remains to be seen, but one thing is clear — Yash’s next film has everyone talking, and not just for its action.
As release day approaches, all eyes will be on how the makers respond — and whether the full film reshapes the narrative sparked by its first look.
