Actor Guy Pearce has apologized after coming under fire for circulating misleading and antisemitic conspiracy content on social media. The Brutalist star, who has been vocal about supporting Palestine in recent years, acknowledged that several posts he reshared contained “misinformation and falsehoods,” prompting widespread criticism.
The Controversial Posts
According to Jewish News, Pearce had amplified posts referencing far-right activist Nick Fuentes, along with online claims suggesting that Jewish individuals own major pornography companies, that Israel was responsible for the 9/11 attacks, and that Israeli officials orchestrated the killing of Charlie Kirk.
He also reportedly shared content from an account named Corefitnessbynaz2, which pushed rhetoric blaming “Zionists” for corruption in the U.S. and linking Jewish ownership to gambling, prostitution and casino empires in Las Vegas.
His Public Apology
After being contacted for comment, Pearce issued a formal apology, saying he did not intend to spread harmful narratives:
“It has been brought to my attention that, in my support of Palestine, I have inadvertently re-posted articles and statements that contained misinformation and falsehoods. I am deeply sorry. I will be more diligent in future to verify anything I share online.”
He stressed that he understood how inaccurate claims can escalate fear, confusion and distress.
A Longstanding Public Stance
Pearce has made his support for Palestine visible at major global events. At the 2025 Oscars, where he was nominated for The Brutalist, he wore a dove-shaped “Free Palestine” pin. The previous year at Cannes, he sported a Palestinian flag badge — a moment that sparked controversy when Vanity Fair France edited the pin out of a published photo.
Pearce responded strongly at the time, saying the erasure was “unfortunate” and dismissive of the ongoing suffering in Gaza.
Community Response
The Campaign Against Antisemitism acknowledged Pearce’s apology but emphasized that it intends to monitor whether his future behavior aligns with his statement.
A spokesperson noted,
“Guy Pearce has a long track record of amplifying some of the most toxic antisemitic conspiracies. His apology is welcome, but what matters now is whether he genuinely changes and stops promoting this kind of material.”
They also pointed out that agencies, studios and brand partners will be watching his actions closely.
Not His First Social Media Controversy
This is not Pearce’s first experience with backlash over online comments. In 2023, he apologized after questioning whether only trans actors should play trans characters — a debate he later admitted was poorly handled on social media.
At the time, he said:
“I see that raising the question of gender identity in casting on Twitter was not a good idea. I apologise enormously.”
Final Words
Guy Pearce’s latest apology comes at a time when public figures face increasing scrutiny over the accuracy and impact of what they share online. While the actor has positioned himself as a vocal supporter of Palestinian rights, the controversy surrounding these posts has opened up a broader conversation about misinformation, responsibility and the consequences of amplifying harmful narratives.
