Marvel has officially pulled the nostalgia lever — and fans are losing it. The latest teaser for Avengers: Doomsday confirms what many hoped for: the X-Men are back, and they’re being reintroduced in classic fashion.
The minute-long teaser, now playing in theatres alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash, opens with Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) facing each other across a chessboard — a quiet, loaded moment longtime fans will instantly recognise.
In his unmistakable voice, McKellen’s Magneto delivers a chilling line:
“Death comes for us all. That’s all I know for sure. The question isn’t, ‘Are you prepared to die?’ The question is, ‘Who will you be when you close your eyes?’”
Cyclops Unleashes His Power
The teaser then shifts gears, cutting to Cyclops, once again played by James Marsden, as he dramatically removes his visor and fires his iconic red optic blast. It’s a brief moment, but enough to confirm that Marvel isn’t just teasing — the X-Men are fully in play.
Stewart, McKellen and Marsden, who first appeared together in 2000’s X-Men, were officially announced as part of Avengers: Doomsday last year. This teaser marks their first on-screen presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.
Marvel’s Teaser Rollout Strategy
This X-Men-focused clip is the third Doomsday teaser released by Marvel so far. Previous teasers spotlighted Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, hinting that Doomsday is shaping up to be a massive crossover event spanning multiple Marvel eras.
A Huge December 2026 Event
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Doomsday is locked in as Marvel’s big Christmas 2026 release, hitting theatres on December 18, 2026. The Russo brothers last helmed Avengers: Endgame, which went on to become the second-highest-grossing film of all time with $2.799 billion worldwide.
If this teaser is any indication, Doomsday is positioning itself as a legacy-defining Marvel event — one that finally brings the X-Men into the MCU spotlight.
