Dacoit came in with solid buzz — and at least for now, the numbers are backing that hype. The Adivi Sesh-led action drama has clocked over ₹40 crore worldwide in just three days, marking the strongest opening of the actor’s career.
But here’s the interesting part — while the box office looks strong, the audience response is far from unanimous.
Strong Start: Sesh’s Biggest Opening Yet
Backed by Annapurna Studios, the film hit theatres on Friday and quickly gathered pace over the weekend. The makers confirmed the ₹40 crore gross milestone, calling it a “sensational opening.”
In the US market, the film crossed $900K (around ₹8.4 crore), showing decent traction overseas as well.
For Adivi Sesh, this is a clear jump. His last major release, Major, had opened at ₹35 crore worldwide, while HIT: The Second Case stayed under ₹30 crore in its first three days.
After a four-year gap, this kind of opening puts Dacoit in a strong position — at least on paper.
What’s Driving the Numbers
The film had a few things working in its favour:
- A dual-language release (Telugu + Hindi), widening reach
- Fresh pairing of Mrunal Thakur and Sesh
- Curiosity around Anurag Kashyap in a key role
- And importantly, Sesh’s growing credibility after films like Goodachari
There’s also the “revenge drama” hook — a tried-and-tested formula that often pulls crowds in the opening weekend.
The Catch: Mixed Word of Mouth
Here’s where things get tricky.
Despite the strong opening, Dacoit hasn’t landed cleanly with critics or sections of the audience. Many reviews point out that the story feels overly familiar — a love story turned revenge saga that doesn’t really break new ground.
The first half, in particular, has been called slow and stretched, while the emotional beats don’t always hit as intended. Even the COVID-era backdrop hasn’t added much depth, according to some viewers.
In short: people are watching it, but not everyone is loving it.
The Real Test Starts Now
Directed by Shaneil Deo in his debut, Dacoit still has momentum on its side. But weekdays will decide where this goes.
Films with mixed reception often see sharp drops after the weekend unless strong word-of-mouth kicks in. That’s the challenge here.
Sesh’s next lineup, including the much-awaited G2, already has attention. But for now, all eyes are on whether Dacoit can hold steady — or fade quickly after its explosive start.
