The lawns of Taj Lands End witnessed an evening heavy with emotion on Thursday as Dharmendra’s family, friends, and some of Bollywood’s biggest stars gathered to honour the legendary actor. What unfolded was a deeply moving Celebration of Life — a quiet, soulful farewell filled with music, prayer, and the unmistakable warmth he left behind.
Sonu Nigam’s Musical Tribute Leaves the Gathering Emotional
One of the most touching moments of the evening came from singer Sonu Nigam, whose live tribute brought many to tears. He performed some of Dharmendra’s most beloved classics — Main Kahin Kavi Na Ban Jau, Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, Apne Toh Apne Hote Hain, Ro Lene De, and the iconic friendship anthem Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge.
Another performance from Prithvi Gandharv, singing the devotional Govind Bolo Hari Gopal Bolo, added a serene, spiritual layer to the evening.
On stage, a large portrait of Dharmendra stood surrounded by white floral arrangements, as a glowing message behind it read: “We’ll Miss You.”
A Private Yet Powerful Gathering
The Deol family had chosen to keep the ceremony intimate, although photos and videos eventually surfaced online. Dharmendra’s first wife Prakash Kaur, along with their children — Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Ajeeta, Vijeta, and grandsons Karan and Rajveer — attended the prayer meet. Actor Abhay Deol also stood by the family’s side.
Sunny and Bobby, visibly emotional throughout the evening, quietly greeted guests and stood together through the nearly three-hour-long ceremony, held from 5:30 pm to 8 pm.
Bollywood Shows Up in Full Strength
The turnout reflected Dharmendra’s unmatched influence across generations.
Those spotted at the gathering included:
- Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
- Salman Khan
- Shah Rukh Khan’s family
- Rekha
- Madhuri Dixit
- Vidya Balan
- Jackie Shroff
- Sidharth Malhotra
- Ameesha Patel
- Suniel Shetty
- Nimrat Kaur
- Fardeen Khan
- Subhash Ghai
- Shabana Azmi
- Anu Malik
- Abbas–Mastan
- Anil Sharma
From industry veterans to younger stars, nearly everyone who shared a bond with Dharmendra marked their presence to honour the legendary actor’s life and legacy.
A Celebration Built on Love, Not Speeches
The Deol family chose not to speak about Dharmendra’s passing in public and maintained that privacy even during the prayer meet. Instead of long speeches, the evening flowed through music, spiritual chants, and candid photos of Dharmendra placed gently around the venue — a quiet reminder of the warmth and charm he carried until the end.
Remembering a Legend
Dharmendra passed away on November 24 at the age of 89, just days before his 90th birthday. He had been recuperating at home after being discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital earlier this month and was cremated on November 25.
The Celebration of Life was not just a farewell — it was a heartfelt tribute to an actor whose charisma, generosity, and timeless presence shaped Indian cinema for decades.
Final Words
Thursday’s gathering wasn’t just about mourning; it was about gratitude. Through music, memories, and quiet reflection, Dharmendra’s loved ones and admirers came together to honour a life that touched millions. And as his favourite songs echoed across the lawn, one thing was clear — his legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of fans and the fabric of Bollywood.
