Anne Hathaway is heading back to television in a major way. Paramount+ has officially greenlit the limited true-crime series Fear Not, with Hathaway set to star and executive produce, according to Variety.
The project is inspired by the Vanity Fair article “True Crime, True Faith: The Serial Killer and the Texas Mom Who Stopped Him,” written by Julie Miller, and promises a deeply unsettling — yet emotionally complex — story rooted in real events.
What Is ‘Fear Not’ About?
Fear Not centres on Stephen Morin, a prolific serial killer accused of committing more crimes than Ted Bundy, and the extraordinary bond he formed with Margy Palm — the last woman he ever kidnapped.
Hathaway will portray Margy Palm, a deeply religious Texas mother whose abduction begins as a life-or-death hostage situation. What follows, however, is an unexpected transformation. Through compassion, prayer, and unflinching courage, Palm forges a relationship with her captor — one that continues even after she escapes, lasting until Morin is sentenced to death.
Rather than functioning as a conventional whodunit, the series explores why people change — and whether redemption is possible even in the darkest circumstances.
Creative Team Behind the Series
The series is being adapted by Bash Doran, whose recent TV work includes Boardwalk Empire, Masters of Sex, and Netflix’s Beef. She is also the creator of the British series Traitors and Life After Life.
Hathaway will executive produce under her Somewhere Pictures banner alongside Adam Shulman and Johnathan Rice. Additional executive producers include Steve Stark and Stacey Levin of Toluca Pictures, with MGM Television handling production.
Part of Paramount+’s Female-Led Content Push
Fear Not is also a key title in Paramount+’s evolving programming strategy following the Paramount–Skydance leadership shift. Under Cindy Holland and Jane Wiseman, the streamer has been leaning strongly into female-led, prestige storytelling.
Recent moves include the straight-to-series legal drama Discretion, starring Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning.
Jane Wiseman described Fear Not as a project that blends suspense with emotional depth, saying Hathaway brings “a level of nuance and gravity that only a performer of her caliber can.”
A Rare TV Lead Role for Anne Hathaway
Despite her extensive career, Fear Not marks one of Hathaway’s few leading television roles. She began acting on TV in Get Real and more recently appeared in Apple TV+’s WeCrashed, but she remains best known for her film work.
Her résumé includes Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning performances in Les Misérables, acclaimed turns in Rachel Getting Married, The Devil Wears Prada, The Dark Knight Rises, and Brokeback Mountain. Up next, she’s set to appear in The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
Final Words
With Fear Not, Paramount+ is betting on a powerful mix of true crime, faith, trauma, and transformation — anchored by one of Hollywood’s most respected performers. Rather than sensationalising violence, the series appears focused on emotional resilience and moral complexity.
If executed well, Fear Not could join the growing list of prestige true-crime dramas that linger long after the credits roll — and further cement Anne Hathaway’s impact on the small screen.
