Aneet Padda Wanted a Solo Film After Saiyaara Success

Aneet Padda had no intention of repeating the same romantic formula after the blockbuster success of Saiyaara. The actress has revealed that she deliberately wanted to explore a different genre and take responsibility for leading a film, making Maddock Films’ upcoming Shakti Shalini an ideal opportunity.

In an interview with Variety India, Aneet discussed her career choices following the success of Mohit Suri’s 2025 romantic drama, which starred her opposite Ahaan Panday.

Aneet Padda Wanted to Explore Something Beyond Romance

Asked whether moving away from romance was a conscious decision, Aneet responded enthusiastically.

“I wanted to do a solo film, to be as blunt as I can be. I wanted to be able to say that this is my movie.”

The actress explained that Shakti Shalini offers a combination of action, romance and supernatural elements, allowing her to explore a different side of her acting abilities.

While acknowledging that carrying a film brings considerable pressure, Aneet said she welcomed the responsibility, particularly because opportunities to headline major productions remain significant for young actresses.

Why Shakti Shalini Is an Important Career Move

Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Shakti Shalini is part of Maddock Films’ expanding horror-comedy universe, which includes Stree, Bhediya, Munjya and Thamma.

Interestingly, Sarpotdar recently revealed that he had noticed Aneet’s acting potential in Big Girls Don’t Cry, even before Saiyaara became a blockbuster.

The film also features Vishal Jethwa and Viineet Kumar Singh.

Originally announced for December 24, 2026, Shakti Shalini has reportedly been pushed toward early 2027, although an officially revised release date remains unconfirmed.

For Aneet, the film represents more than a genre change. It is an opportunity to establish herself as a leading performer outside the romantic roles that brought her widespread recognition.
