Netflix is making an early commitment to The Hunting Wives. The streamer has officially renewed the Brittany Snow and Malin Åkerman thriller for Season 3, more than a month before its second season arrives on November 26.
Creator and showrunner Rebecca Cutter confirmed that work on the third season is already moving forward, telling Netflix that she is “super proud of how the scripts for Season 3 are coming out.” She also teased that the show’s world will become bigger and the stakes considerably higher.
“I’m so stoked to be heading back to Maple Brook, and I promise that once you’ve finished Season 2, you’ll be desperate to see what happens next. Buckle up, because Season 3 will be even more scandalous and twisted,” Cutter said.
No Season 3 release date or detailed storyline has been announced yet, and Netflix is keeping quiet about which characters will survive the coming second-season chaos long enough to return.
Netflix is betting on the show before seeing Season 2 results
The timing makes this more interesting than an ordinary renewal.
The Hunting Wives Season 2 does not premiere until November 26, meaning Netflix has ordered another season without waiting to see how the sophomore run performs with audiences.
There is a fairly obvious reason for that confidence. Season 1 became one of Netflix’s surprise successes after arriving in July 2025. Netflix says the series spent five weeks on its Global English TV Top 10, accumulating more than 20 million views during that run.
The series also had an unconventional path to Netflix. It was originally developed for Starz before Netflix acquired the completed first season. Following its success, the show became a Netflix-branded series going forward, with Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment continuing to produce.
That makes the Season 3 pickup another step in what has quickly turned from an acquisition into a longer-term Netflix franchise.
Season 2 moves beyond May Cobb’s original novel
The coming season may also give a better indication of how much storytelling runway The Hunting Wives actually has.
The series began as an adaptation of May Cobb’s bestselling novel, following Sophie O’Neil, played by Snow, after she moves to East Texas and becomes drawn into the orbit of wealthy socialite Margo Banks, played by Åkerman. Obsession, affairs and murder quickly complicate that relationship.
But Variety reports that Season 2 will move beyond the events covered by Cobb’s book, meaning Cutter and the writers are now expanding the television version into original territory.
When Season 2 begins, Sophie and Margo are on bad terms after the violent revelations and deaths that closed the first season. Netflix’s official synopsis says “old secrets and new foes” will eventually push them back together, while forcing them to question whether they are still the hunters or have become the hunted.
The season also adds several new players. John Stamos, Kim Matula, Alex Fitzalan, Cam Gigandet and Dale Dickey are among the actors joining the ensemble, while Snow, Åkerman, Dermot Mulroney, Jaime Ray Newman, Evan Jonigkeit and George Ferrier return.
For Season 3, Netflix has deliberately stopped short of confirming who will be back. That is probably sensible for a series built around secrets, betrayals and murder.
What is confirmed is that Netflix does not intend Season 2 to be the end of Sophie and Margo’s story. With scripts for another season already taking shape before the November premiere, viewers can go into the next batch of episodes knowing Maple Brook’s particular brand of chaos has at least one more chapter coming.
