‘Udta Teer’ Postponed Again as Ayushmann Khurrana Film Moves to October 23

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s Udta Teer has been postponed again, with the spy comedy now set to release in theaters on October 23, 2026 instead of October 9.

The makers confirmed the two-week shift through a press note, explaining that the decision was driven by an increasingly crowded theatrical calendar rather than any production delay. The team said moving the film would give it a “cleaner release window and a stronger theatrical runway” while avoiding a situation where the film might have to compromise on screens.

This is the second major release-date change for Udta Teer. The film was originally scheduled for September 11, before being pushed to October 9 in August. It will now arrive on October 23.

Why ‘Udta Teer’ moved away from October 9

The timing of the move is particularly interesting because October suddenly became considerably more competitive.

Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam: The Conclusion opened strongly on October 2 and is expected to continue occupying substantial screen space into its second week. Meanwhile, Gondhal is beginning exclusive preview screenings on October 9, while October 16 brings titles including Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam and Yami Gautam’s Nayyi Navelli.

That makes October 23 comparatively open. Cinema Express notes that Udta Teer is currently the only major Hindi release positioned for that date.

For a mid-budget comedy that will depend heavily on word of mouth, screen availability can matter more than simply reaching theaters as early as possible. A less crowded weekend gives the film more room to retain shows if audiences respond well.

Ayushmann plays a Pakistani spy who forgets which country he serves

The delay also gives the makers another two weeks to continue selling what is easily the film’s strongest hook.

Ayushmann plays Bilal, a Pakistani intelligence operative who loses his memory after an explosion. He remembers that he is patriotic, but forgets which country he belongs to and ends up helping India instead. Ayushmann has described the film as a “pro-India patriotic comedy” and said the project marks a return to the unconventional, concept-driven movies with which he originally built his career.

Sara Ali Khan plays an Indian Counter-Terrorism Squad officer who does not initially know Bilal’s true identity. The ensemble also includes Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Sandeep Anand, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Smita Tambe.

The film marks the directorial debut of Akash A Kaushik and is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain through Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment.

The postponement looks more strategic than concerning

Repeated release-date changes can sometimes signal trouble behind the scenes, but there is currently no indication of that here.

The film’s trailer and promotional campaign are already active, and the makers’ statement specifically frames the shift as a theatrical strategy decision. Moneycontrol likewise reports that the team moved the film to October 23 to secure a less cluttered window.

That distinction matters.

Udta Teer is not being delayed indefinitely, nor has its release plan been abandoned. It has simply moved two weeks later in the same month.

For a movie built around an unusual spy-comedy premise rather than spectacle or franchise recognition, that may be the smarter gamble. Instead of fighting for attention during an increasingly crowded October 9 corridor, Udta Teer now gets a cleaner chance to test whether Ayushmann’s return to high-concept comedy can turn into a theatrical hit.
