The Deadites are heading home just in time for Halloween.
Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that Evil Dead Burn will make its global streaming debut on HBO Max on Friday, October 2, 2026, less than three months after arriving in theaters on July 10.
The film will also make its HBO television debut the following night, October 3 at 8 p.m. ET, as part of an Evil Dead mini-marathon. HBO will air 2013’s Evil Dead at 4:45 p.m. ET and Evil Dead Rise at 6:20 p.m. before Burn closes the night.
For a franchise built around possessed bodies, extreme gore and the Necronomicon, an early-October streaming launch feels like particularly appropriate timing.
Evil Dead Burn brings the Deadites back to the family home
Directed by Sébastien Vaniček, Evil Dead Burn is the sixth feature film in the long-running horror franchise that began with Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead in 1981. Vaniček co-wrote the movie with Florent Bernard, while Raimi and longtime franchise producer Rob Tapert serve as producers.
This time, the story follows a grieving woman who visits the secluded home of her late husband’s family looking for some comfort.
That reunion goes very wrong.
One by one, members of the family are transformed into Deadites, turning what should have been a period of mourning into another characteristically brutal Evil Dead survival story. Souheila Yacoub leads the cast alongside Tandi Wright, Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, Erroll Shand and Maude Davey.
Unlike a direct continuation centered on Ash Williams, Burn follows the approach used by Evil Dead Rise: take the mythology, put a new group of characters in an isolated nightmare and see how creatively the Deadites can destroy everything around them.
HBO Max is turning October 2 into the film’s second launch
The streaming date gives Evil Dead Burn something many summer horror releases would love to have—a second marketing window during horror’s biggest month.
The film originally opened theatrically on July 10. By moving to HBO Max on October 2, Warner Bros. gives audiences nearly the entire Halloween season to discover or revisit it at home.
There is already another Halloween connection.
Universal Studios selected Evil Dead Burn for a dedicated Halloween Horror Nights haunted house at both Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood this year. The Orlando version opened August 28, while Hollywood followed on September 3.
So by October, the newest Evil Dead chapter will effectively exist in three forms at once: as a theatrical horror movie, a Halloween Horror Nights attraction and now an HBO Max streaming release.
That is a fitting afterlife for a franchise that has spent more than four decades refusing to stay dead.
Evil Dead is already preparing its next chapter
Burn also arrives during another active period for the franchise.
It follows 2023’s Evil Dead Rise, which moved the Deadite nightmare into a Los Angeles apartment building, while Burn takes the horror back to an isolated family setting. Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell remain involved behind the scenes, even as new directors and casts continue expanding the mythology.
The approach suggests that modern Evil Dead is becoming less dependent on one continuing protagonist and more like an anthology of increasingly unpleasant encounters with the same demonic forces.
That makes HBO Max’s October timing useful for newcomers too. Viewers do not need to work through every previous film before watching Burn, although HBO’s October 3 lineup conveniently offers the two most recent theatrical chapters back-to-back.
Evil Dead Burn begins streaming exclusively on HBO Max on October 2, 2026, with its HBO linear premiere following on October 3.
