During a recent appearance at Spacecon 2026, Janssen openly addressed the fact that she is not part of Avengers: Doomsday. While speaking with Nerdtropolis, the actress admitted she believes Marvel missed an opportunity by not bringing her version of Jean Grey back alongside many of her former co-stars. “I am so bad at keeping secrets that I always say to everyone I’m the worst actor in the world. It’s all on my face. You right away will read it,” Janssen said. “I think they made a mistake, but hey, who am I? I’m just a little me who thinks that.”
The statement immediately caught attention because Marvel has gone to great lengths to reunite actors from previous superhero eras. With the multiverse now serving as a major storytelling device in the MCU, many viewers expected Jean Grey to be among the returning X-Men characters. Many X-Men Stars Are Returning Without Jean Grey

Janssen revealed last year that nearly every interview she participates in eventually circles back to Jean Grey and the possibility of a return. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2025, Janssen acknowledged that she had not fully realized how significant the role remained to fans. “It’s interesting,” Janssen said. “I didn’t realize that was such a big part. Every interview I do, that will come up, and of everything I say, that is going to be the only thing that’s gonna be printed.”
She continued by reflecting on the lasting popularity of Jean Grey. “I should be flattered, I suppose, that this character has resonated with people,” she added. “It’s been so long, but it’s nice that people are still talking about her. I’m sure every single time there’s a new movie that they’re doing, like [is it] ‘Doomsday?’ … it’ll come up again.”
Could Jean Grey Still Have an MCU Future?
Even though Janssen is not currently attached to Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel’s multiverse storytelling means fans are unlikely to stop speculating anytime soon. The MCU has repeatedly shown a willingness to revisit legacy characters when audiences least expect it. Several actors who were once believed finished with their superhero roles have eventually returned through surprise appearances and alternate-universe storylines.
Jean Grey also remains one of Marvel’s most iconic mutant characters, making her eventual MCU debut feel almost inevitable. Whether Marvel chooses to introduce a completely new version of the character or finds a way to bring back Janssen in the future remains unknown.
