Jill Scott is officially stepping back into the music spotlight — and fans won’t have to wait long. After more than a decade away from releasing a full-length project, the Grammy-winning R&B icon has announced her sixth studio album, To Whom This May Concern, set to drop on February 13.
The album will be released via The Orchard, marking Scott’s first new body of work since 2015’s Woman.
A Star-Studded, Genre-Spanning Comeback
Rather than easing back quietly, Scott is returning with a project that brings together an impressive mix of voices and sounds. To Whom This May Concern features collaborations with Ab-Soul, J.I.D., Tierra Whack, and Too Short, blending classic soul energy with modern hip-hop influences.
On the production side, the album boasts an equally heavyweight lineup, including DJ Premier, Adam Blackstone, Om’Mas Keith, Camper, Andre Harris, Trombone Shorty, Seige Montracity, Eric Wortham, DW Wright, and VT Tolan — signalling a rich, layered sonic palette.
Alongside the announcement, Scott also released the album’s first single, “Beautiful People,” giving listeners their first taste of the project’s warm, celebratory tone.
“It’s a Lot of Living in This Album”
Speaking recently about the record, Scott described the album as deeply personal and emotionally expansive. She revealed that the songs reflect lived experiences, growth, and revelation — not just musically, but spiritually and creatively.
According to Scott, the project explores a full musical spectrum and benefited from the energy of musicians who were genuinely drawn to the work. She admitted that even she was surprised by who ended up contributing, calling the experience fulfilling in ways she hadn’t anticipated.
Tracks like “Pay You on Tuesday” and “Don’t Play” were highlighted as examples of the album’s honesty and emotional weight.
A Long Gap — But a Powerful Legacy
Scott’s last album, Woman, was released in 2015 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, cementing her place as one of R&B’s most respected voices. In 2025, she celebrated the 25th anniversary of her debut album, Who Is Jill Scott?: Words and Sounds Vol. 1, with special performances, including a standout appearance at the Essence Festival.
The new album feels less like a comeback and more like a continuation — one shaped by time, experience, and creative freedom.
Music, Acting, and What’s Next
During her time away from releasing albums, Scott hasn’t exactly been quiet. She’s steadily built a strong acting résumé, appearing in shows like Black Lightning, First Wives Club, and a recent guest role on Abbott Elementary.
She’s also set to appear next in Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? for Netflix, further expanding her presence beyond music.
Final Words
With To Whom This May Concern, Jill Scott isn’t chasing trends or reclaiming relevance — she’s simply returning on her own terms. Grounded, reflective, and creatively energized, the album promises a mature, soulful statement from an artist who has never needed to rush her truth.
