Global supergroup BTS is back—and they’ve returned with numbers that are hard to ignore. Their latest album Arirang has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, giving the group its seventh chart-topping album and one of the biggest opening weeks in recent music history.
The album opened with a massive 641,000 equivalent units, out of which a staggering 532,000 came from pure sales alone. In a streaming-dominated era, that kind of number stands out—and shows just how strong BTS’ physical buying power still is. In fact, it’s the biggest sales week for a group in over a decade, a benchmark that hasn’t been crossed since the peak boyband era of the early 2010s.
A big part of this success comes from smart release strategy and fan engagement. The album dropped in multiple collectible formats, including 17 vinyl variants, which alone contributed over 200,000 copies. That places Arirang among the biggest vinyl sales weeks in modern chart history—territory largely dominated by Taylor Swift in recent years.
What makes this achievement even more significant is the timing. Arirang marks BTS’ first major release after all seven members—RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook—completed their mandatory military service. The comeback wasn’t just musical; it felt like a full-circle moment for fans who had been waiting for the group’s reunion.
To celebrate the release, BTS held a large-scale concert at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul, which was streamed globally, further amplifying the buzz. They also dropped a feature-length documentary, offering a behind-the-scenes look at their journey during this transitional phase.
On the charts, BTS didn’t just lead—they dominated. Behind them, Luke Combs secured the No. 2 spot with The Way I Am, followed by Morgan Wallen at No. 3. Other notable entries in the top 10 include Harry Styles and Don Toliver, reflecting a diverse mix of genres currently dominating the charts.
But this week clearly belongs to BTS. From record-breaking sales to a culturally significant comeback, Arirang isn’t just another No. 1 album—it’s a statement. After years of evolution, solo ventures, and global expansion, the group has once again proven that when they come together, the impact is unmatched.
