The Odyssey IMAX Tickets Cross Rs 3,000 In India

Universal Pictures

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is just days away from hitting cinemas, but for many moviegoers, the biggest talking point isn’t the film’s nearly three-hour runtime or its all-star cast. Instead, it’s the eye-watering ticket prices that have already sparked conversations across social media. Premium IMAX screenings in several Indian cities are selling at record-breaking rates, with some seats crossing the Rs 3,000 mark ahead of the film’s release on July 17.

The anticipation surrounding Nolan’s latest spectacle has translated into strong advance bookings, particularly for IMAX screenings. Known for designing his films around the premium large-format experience, Nolan’s latest adaptation of Homer’s legendary epic is expected to be one of the biggest theatrical releases of the year. With a reported runtime of 2 hours and 52 minutes and a cast led by Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page and Charlize Theron, demand has remained high despite the premium pricing.

Mumbai tops the list with Rs 3,100 IMAX tickets

Among India’s major metro cities, Mumbai currently has the highest-priced tickets for The Odyssey. At PVR ICON, Phoenix Palladium in Lower Parel, recliner seats for IMAX screenings are priced at Rs 3,100 across multiple shows throughout the day. Standard seats at the same venue are comparatively more affordable, ranging from around Rs 700 to Rs 1,000 depending on the row and show timing.

Another premium destination, Miraj Cinemas IMAX in Wadala, is selling recliner seats for as much as Rs 2,500. Other seating categories at the multiplex range from approximately Rs 900 to Rs 2,000. Across several other premium cinemas in Mumbai, recliner tickets generally fall between Rs 1,300 and Rs 1,800, reflecting the city’s strong demand for Christopher Nolan’s films.

Delhi NCR also sees premium pricing

Delhi NCR isn’t far behind when it comes to premium ticket costs. At PVR IMAX with Laser, Priya Cinema, recliner seats for the 4:45 PM show are listed at Rs 2,500 per person. Several other IMAX screenings at the venue are also priced at Rs 2,100 for recliners, making it one of the most expensive cinema experiences in the capital.

At PVR Select City Walk, premium recliner seats have reached Rs 2,400, while regular seating options are available between Rs 900 and Rs 1,100. Moviegoers booking tickets at PVR Superplex, Logix Noida, can expect recliner prices around Rs 1,800 to Rs 1,850, with standard seats generally ranging between Rs 800 and Rs 1,100 depending on the show.

Bengaluru, Kolkata and Chennai offer different price ranges

Ticket prices vary considerably across other major cities. Bengaluru continues to command premium rates for IMAX presentations, though they remain lower than Mumbai and Delhi. At Cinepolis Nexus Shantiniketan, the highest-priced tickets are around Rs 1,950, while PVR VR Bengaluru offers premium seats at Rs 1,850, Rs 1,650, Rs 1,550 and Rs 1,200 across different screening times.

Kolkata presents a comparatively more affordable option for fans. At INOX South City Mall, premium tickets are priced around Rs 1,240 and Rs 1,100 for most daytime and evening shows, while early morning screenings are available at lower rates. Chennai remains the most budget-friendly among the major cities, where ticket prices have been capped at approximately Rs 508.34, making it significantly cheaper than every other metropolitan market.

The noticeable difference in pricing largely reflects local cinema regulations, state government policies and demand for premium formats. While some states allow flexible pricing for blockbuster releases, others continue to enforce ticket caps, creating a wide gap between cities.

Christopher Nolan has built a reputation for making films specifically designed for IMAX presentation, with Oppenheimer becoming one of the biggest premium-format successes in recent years. Industry observers expect The Odyssey to follow a similar path, particularly given Nolan’s loyal fan base and the scale of the production. Even with premium ticket prices crossing Rs 3,000 in some locations, advance bookings suggest audiences remain eager to experience the filmmaker’s latest epic on the biggest screen possible when it arrives in theatres on July 17.
