Bollywood’s 2026 box office drought didn’t last long. Border 2 has stormed into theatres like a cannon blast, delivering the industry its first major blockbuster of the year. In just three days, the Sunny Deol-led war epic has crossed ₹150 crore worldwide and entered the ₹100 crore club in India — a feat Hindi cinema struggled to achieve in recent months.

What makes Border 2’s run even more impressive is how sharply its collections climbed over the weekend, signalling strong word of mouth and mass appeal kicking in at the right time.

Day 3 Push Takes Collections to New Heights

After a solid opening, Border 2 truly found its rhythm on Sunday. The film recorded an India nett collection of ₹57.20 crore on Day 3, a big jump from Saturday’s ₹40.59 crore. With this surge, its total domestic nett collection now stands at ₹129.89 crore in just three days.

Globally, the film added significant numbers as well, taking its worldwide gross to approximately ₹158.5 crore by the end of Sunday. Trade expectations are already pointing toward a massive boost on Republic Day, which could push the film comfortably past the ₹200 crore mark within days.

Outperforming Dhurandhar Right From the Start

Border 2’s performance becomes even more notable when placed alongside its closest competitor. The war drama has consistently stayed ahead of Dhurandhar, the Ranveer Singh-starrer directed by Aditya Dhar.

On opening day, Border 2 collected ₹32.10 crore, ahead of Dhurandhar’s ₹28 crore. The gap widened on Day 2, with Border 2 earning ₹36.5 crore compared to Dhurandhar’s ₹32 crore. Sunday sealed the deal, as Border 2 pulled in ₹54.5 crore against Dhurandhar’s ₹43 crore on their first Sunday in theatres.

At this point, Border 2 has clearly taken the lead in the box office race and looks poised to emerge as the bigger crowd-puller of the two.

Strong Occupancy Reflects Growing Buzz

The film’s Sunday occupancy numbers tell the same story. Border 2 recorded an overall Hindi market occupancy of 59.14 per cent. Morning shows started modestly at 31.46 per cent, but footfalls surged as the day progressed. Afternoon occupancy climbed to 68.93 per cent, evening shows peaked at 77.03 per cent, while night shows held steady at 67.5 per cent.

This steady upward curve across showtimes suggests that audience interest intensified through the weekend — a healthy sign for its weekday run.

A Much-Needed Win for Sunny Deol and Varun Dhawan

For Sunny Deol, Border 2 couldn’t have arrived at a better time. His previous release Jaat ended its theatrical run at around ₹118.36 crore worldwide, falling short of expectations. At its current pace, Border 2 is on track to surpass Jaat as early as Day 4.

The film also offers a major confidence boost for Varun Dhawan, who has struggled with box office consistency in recent years. With no clear success since Bhediya, Border 2’s roaring start marks his strongest commercial moment in a while.

Franchise Legacy Meets New-Age Scale

Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 serves as a sequel to J.P. Dutta’s iconic 1997 blockbuster. The film also stars Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, blending nostalgia with fresh star power and large-scale action.

Final Words

With explosive weekend growth, strong occupancy, and a holiday advantage ahead, Border 2 is shaping up to be more than just a hit — it’s looking like Bollywood’s first true box office phenomenon of 2026. If the momentum holds, the war epic could soon rewrite several opening-week records and firmly establish itself as the film to beat this year.
