After a cautious start at the box office, Mardaani 3 has finally shown signs of upward movement. The third instalment in Rani Mukerji’s popular cop franchise wrapped up its opening weekend with ₹17.50 crore net in India, aided by improved collections on Sunday.

The film hit theatres on January 30, arriving in a crowded marketplace dominated by Border 2. Despite the stiff competition, Mardaani 3 has managed to hold its ground so far.

Sunday Boost Helps Weekend Total

According to industry estimates from Sacnilk, Mardaani 3 earned ₹7.25 crore on Sunday (Day 3) — its best single-day performance so far. This late surge pushed the film’s opening weekend total to ₹17.50 crore net in India.

However, when compared to Border 2, the gap remains significant. Sunny Deol’s war drama collected ₹54.5 crore on its first Sunday alone, while Mardaani 3 is yet to touch double-digit daily figures.

Occupancy and Regional Performance

On Sunday, Mardaani 3 recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 33.29% across 2,611 shows nationwide.

  • Evening shows led the day with 49.80% occupancy
  • Night shows followed at 33.10%

City-wise, Pune emerged as the strongest market with 45% occupancy across 159 shows. Mumbai followed with 42.25% occupancy across 451 shows, while Delhi-NCR registered 33.75% occupancy from 558 shows.

Worldwide Collections So Far

On the global front, the film collected ₹16.6 crore worldwide in its first two days. Overseas markets contributed ₹4.4 crore on Saturday, indicating moderate but steady interest outside India.

How It Compares to the Previous Films

In terms of franchise performance, Mardaani 3 has done better than the original Mardaani (2014), which earned ₹14.38 crore in its opening weekend. However, it currently slightly trails behind Mardaani 2 (2019), which had collected ₹18.15 crore over its first three days.

With word-of-mouth improving, the gap could narrow in the coming days.

Industry Support and What’s Next

The film has been receiving strong support from within the industry. Several prominent names, including Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Kiara Advani, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Anushka Sharma have praised Rani Mukerji’s performance.

Directed by Abhiraj Minawala and produced by Yash Raj Films, the film also stars Janki Bodiwala and Mallika Prasad in key roles.

Final Words

The real test for Mardaani 3 now begins with its Monday hold. If the film manages to retain momentum on weekdays, it could carve out a respectable run despite facing a box office giant like Border 2. Otherwise, its fate may hinge on limited growth beyond its core audience.
