Internet personality and self-proclaimed critic Kamaal R Khan, popularly known as KRK, has issued his first public reaction after being granted bail in a Mumbai firing case that led to his arrest last month. Speaking after his release, Khan said he is leaving the matter to the judiciary, adding that the court will ultimately decide where the truth lies.
KRK was taken into custody by Mumbai Police in January and released a week later on bail, a development that once again put the controversial figure back in the headlines.
Arrest, Bail, and Legal Stand
Kamaal R Khan was arrested on January 24 by the Oshiwara Police in connection with an alleged firing incident at a residential building in Mumbai. He was later released on a personal bond of ₹25,000 after spending a week in custody and being lodged at Arthur Road Jail.
His lawyer, Sana Raees Khan, argued in court that the arrest was illegal and arbitrary. She stated that the police failed to serve a mandatory notice under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, before taking Khan into custody — a lapse she claimed made the arrest contrary to law.
KRK’s First Reaction After Release
In his first statement after being granted bail, Kamaal R Khan told ANI that the police may have had their own reasons for arresting him, but insisted that the justice system will decide the outcome.
He also defended himself by pointing out that he has held a licensed firearm for over 22 years, questioning why he would suddenly misuse it now. Emphasising that he has never violated the law, Khan maintained that he had no intention of causing harm and said the final verdict rests with the court.
What KRK Told the Police
According to police reports, the firing incident took place on January 18. During questioning, Khan told officers that he had fired his gun while testing it after cleaning. He claimed the shots were directed toward a mangrove forest in front of his house and that he had no intention of hurting anyone.
Residents of the Oshiwara area initially reported gunshots without knowing who was responsible. Police later identified Khan as the person who fired the shots. No injuries were reported, though authorities confirmed that two rounds were fired, and one cartridge was recovered from the scene.
Contradictions and Counterclaims
Khan’s legal team, however, presented a different version in court, claiming that an unidentified person fired shots at two separate flats. They also argued that the distance between the buildings — around 400 metres — exceeded the effective range of the weapon, which they said was approximately 20 metres.
KRK has also alleged that he is being unfairly targeted by the film industry, a claim that has added another layer of controversy to the case.
A Familiar Name in Controversy
Kamaal R Khan is no stranger to public disputes. He has appeared in Hindi and Bhojpuri films, most notably Deshdrohi, and gained wider recognition through his outspoken social media presence.
He has previously faced legal trouble over tweets targeting Bollywood stars, including Salman Khan, and was also a contestant on Bigg Boss 3, from which he was expelled due to his conduct and language inside the house.
