The Hyderabad drugs investigation has taken a serious turn with police launching a manhunt for actor Aman Preet Singh, after identifying him as a “regular consumer” during the interrogation of arrested drug peddlers. Aman is the brother of Bollywood actress Rakul Preet Singh, a detail that has pushed the case into the public spotlight.
According to city police officials, Aman’s name surfaced while probing a narcotics racket that was busted earlier this month.
How Aman Preet Singh’s Name Emerged
The case stems from a December 19 operation carried out jointly by the EAGLE (Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement) Force and West Zone police in Hyderabad. During the raid, two local businessmen were arrested for allegedly supplying narcotics, with police seizing 43 grams of cocaine and 11.5 grams of MDMA.
While questioning the accused peddlers, investigators say four names surfaced as drug consumers, including Aman Preet Singh. All four are currently absconding, prompting police teams to begin tracking them down.
Police Call Him a ‘Regular Consumer’
Senior officials revealed that Aman is suspected to have purchased drugs at least five times from the arrested peddlers. While he has not yet been named as an accused, police have classified him as a repeat consumer based on interrogation inputs.
“This is the second time he has been identified as a drug consumer,” a senior officer said, adding that once Aman is traced, authorities will decide whether he should be sent for rehabilitation or counselling, depending on further findings.
July 2024 Arrest Comes Back Into Focus
This isn’t the first time Aman Preet Singh has come under the scanner. In July 2024, he was apprehended in Hyderabad during another narcotics crackdown led by the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TG-ANB) along with Cyberabad police.
At that time, officials treated him as a drug user rather than a trafficker, and he was sent for counselling instead of facing prosecution. Investigators had noted then that his name had appeared in multiple drug-related inquiries, raising red flags about repeated consumption.
Rakul Preet Singh’s Past Summons Resurface
The current developments have also revived references to Rakul Preet Singh’s 2020 summons by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Mumbai. She was questioned as part of the wider Bollywood drugs probe linked to the Sushant Singh Rajput case.
Rakul had categorically denied consuming drugs, explaining that certain WhatsApp chat references were misinterpreted and did not point to illegal substance use.
