Shriya Saran has spoken out against the growing misuse of artificial intelligence to manipulate women’s images, revealing that she has also been targeted by digitally altered photographs. Her remarks come amid widespread outrage over an AI-generated video involving Janhvi Kapoor, which raised serious concerns about consent, privacy and the online exploitation of actresses.
In a recent interview with News18, the Drishyam 3 actress explained how manipulated images can distort a woman’s appearance, sometimes making the results difficult to recognise.
“It’s kind of funny, sometimes I don’t even know if it’s me or not,” Shriya said, describing how edited photographs change her physical features and clothing.
However, she made her position clear: “Having said that, it’s annoying and it’s not right.”
Shriya Saran Warns About the Dangers of AI Misuse
Shriya acknowledged that artificial intelligence can provide significant benefits across industries. Nevertheless, she stressed that the same technology can become harmful when used irresponsibly.
The actress believes society must recognise these risks rather than treating manipulated images as harmless entertainment.
Her comments highlight a growing concern for female performers, whose photographs and videos can be altered without their permission and circulated to large audiences.
What Happened in Janhvi Kapoor’s AI Video Controversy?
The controversy intensified after manipulated footage from Janhvi Kapoor’s song Chuttamalle, featured in the 2024 film Devara: Part 1, circulated online.
The altered video falsely depicted the actress in sexually explicit imagery that was never part of the original song.
Janhvi condemned the incident, describing the unauthorised circulation of such content as “deeply violating, bordering on sexual assault.”
Her co-star Jr NTR also criticised the creators of the video and called for action against those responsible.
Chiranjeevi, Vijay Deverakonda and Khushbu Sundar were among the other celebrities who expressed support.
While Shriya and Janhvi addressed different experiences, their statements underline the same concern: advances in AI should not come at the expense of someone’s dignity or consent.
