Banita Sandhu is reportedly joining Akshay Kumar’s upcoming science-fiction thriller Samuk, taking on a character whose environmental expertise could play an important role in the film’s mysterious alien-survival storyline. The actress, known for October and Sardar Udham, will portray a British-born Indian environmentalist who unexpectedly becomes involved in a mission she was never supposed to join.
According to an October 13 exclusive report by Variety India, Sandhu’s character will be central to the narrative. However, the filmmakers are keeping the circumstances surrounding her involvement under wraps.
What Is Banita Sandhu’s Role in Samuk?
Although her character’s name has not been revealed, the environmentalist’s unexpected participation in the mission appears to be a significant part of the story.
The casting raises an interesting possibility: environmental knowledge could become relevant to the characters’ survival. However, that connection remains speculative because the film’s precise storyline has not been disclosed.
For Sandhu, Samuk represents another genre shift after her appearances in October, Sardar Udham and Netflix’s Bridgerton.
Samuk’s Cast and Ambitious Alien Effects
Directed by Kanishk Varma, Samuk also features Rukmini Maitra, Viineet Kumar Siingh, Rajat Kapoor, Swanand Kirkire and Sushant Singh.
The film reunites Akshay Kumar with producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah after more than a decade.
Unlike science-fiction productions that rely heavily on computer-generated imagery, Samuk aims to emphasise practical creature effects.
Oscar-nominated effects specialist Alec Gillis, associated with the Alien and Predator franchises, is working on the film, while British action director Luke Tumber is handling its action sequences.
Producer Vipul Shah previously explained the approach, saying, “The use of VFX will be very limited.”
When Will Samuk Release?
The production recently completed its United Kingdom schedule, reportedly finishing approximately 80% of filming.
The remaining portions are expected to be shot in Mumbai during a final 20-day schedule.
Samuk is targeting a 2027 theatrical release, although an exact date has not been announced.
With its expanding ensemble and practical-effects approach, the film could offer Indian audiences an unusual combination of alien horror, survival drama and action.
