Mika Singh has questioned Diljit Dosanjh’s approach to promoting his films, arguing that the singer-actor gave far more visibility to Sardaar Ji 3, which co-starred Pakistani actor Hania Aamir, than to the patriotic war drama Border 2. But there is an important wrinkle in Mika’s criticism: Diljit did, in fact, promote Border 2 on his social media and participate in its campaign.
Speaking to Times Now, Mika first made it clear that his comments were not coming from professional jealousy. He praised Diljit’s global success and said he was proud to see another turbaned Punjabi singer build such a major career. His issue was specifically with what he viewed as an uneven level of support for Diljit’s Hindi-film projects.
Discussing Border 2, Mika said: “I could be wrong, but I feel that when Border 2 came out, Diljit paaji did not promote it even one per cent.” He also questioned why Diljit had not spoken more publicly about sharing the film with Sunny Deol, arguing that a project of Border 2’s national and cultural significance deserved stronger support from one of its stars.
Mika contrasts Border 2 with Sardaar Ji 3
Mika then brought Hania Aamir into the discussion by contrasting Border 2 with Sardaar Ji 3, the 2025 Punjabi horror-comedy starring Diljit, Hania and Neeru Bajwa.
According to Mika, the film Diljit appeared most willing to promote was the one featuring the Pakistani actor. He added that Neeru Bajwa was also a major part of Sardaar Ji 3 and said his broader point was that Diljit should support all of his projects rather than appearing selective about which ones receive his attention.
That comparison is politically sensitive because Sardaar Ji 3 became the subject of intense controversy in 2025 after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack heightened India-Pakistan tensions. The movie eventually skipped Indian cinemas and opened overseas on June 27, 2025. Diljit himself posted the trailer while specifying that the release would be overseas only.
The filmmakers subsequently clarified that Hania had been cast and the movie had been shot before the Pahalgam attack. Diljit later made the same point publicly while addressing the controversy surrounding the film.
But Diljit did promote Border 2
This is where Mika’s “not even 1%” argument needs some context.
Diljit personally shared his Border 2 first-look material on Instagram in December 2025. One of his posts showed him in an Indian Air Force uniform, accompanied by the line, “Iss desh ke aasmaan mein Guru ke baaz pehra dete hain.” Contemporary reports also documented him sharing video material connected to his character.
Recent reports responding to Mika’s comments likewise note that Diljit participated in the Border 2 promotional campaign and shared behind-the-scenes material and content related to the film.
So Mika’s criticism is better understood as an argument about the amount and intensity of promotion, rather than a literal absence of promotion.
That distinction makes the disagreement more interesting. Mika appears to believe that Diljit should have used his enormous personal reach more aggressively for Border 2, particularly because of the film’s patriotic subject and Sunny Deol’s association with the original Border. Diljit’s social-media record, however, makes it difficult to say he ignored the project altogether.
An old controversy is still shaping the conversation
The Hania Aamir reference also shows how Sardaar Ji 3 continues to follow Diljit more than a year after its release. What began as a casting decision made before the Pahalgam attack eventually became a larger argument about Indian and Pakistani artists working together, with Diljit facing criticism even though the movie did not receive an Indian theatrical release.
Mika had himself criticised the situation in 2025, saying artists should consider the political climate before releasing projects involving Pakistani performers. His latest comments therefore continue a disagreement he has been publicly raising since the original Sardaar Ji 3 controversy.
For now, Diljit has not publicly responded to Mika’s latest remarks. But the available record adds an important correction to the headline-friendly “not even 1%” claim: Diljit did promote Border 2. What Mika is really questioning is why that promotion did not appear, in his view, to match Diljit’s enthusiasm for Sardaar Ji 3.
