The legal proceedings involving Bollywood actor Jacqueline Fernandez have taken another turn. The Supreme Court has reportedly allowed the actress to withdraw her petition that challenged a Delhi court’s decision to frame charges against her in the alleged Rs 200 crore money laundering case connected to alleged conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar. The move comes weeks after a trial court decided to frame charges against Jacqueline and several others in the high-profile case.
According to reports, the actress chose to withdraw her Special Leave Petition (SLP) before the Supreme Court, while keeping the option open to seek another legal remedy under the law. The latest development means the challenge before the apex court will not proceed further in its current form.
Supreme Court allows Jacqueline Fernandez to withdraw petition
As per PTI, a bench comprising Justices B V Nagarathna and Joymalya Bagchi permitted Jacqueline Fernandez to withdraw her plea. During the hearing, the actress’ legal counsel sought permission to withdraw the Special Leave Petition along with liberty to pursue any appropriate remedy available under the law. The bench reportedly accepted the request.
The petition had challenged the Delhi court’s order that framed charges against Jacqueline in the money laundering case. On May 30, the Delhi court reportedly framed charges against the actress, alleged conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar and 15 others in connection with the Enforcement Directorate’s investigation.
The Supreme Court’s order does not decide the merits of the allegations against Jacqueline. Instead, it simply allows her to withdraw the petition, leaving the door open for her legal team to approach the matter through another available legal route if required.
What is the Rs 200 crore money laundering case?
The investigation dates back to 2021 after a complaint was reportedly filed by Aditi Singh, who alleged she had been cheated of nearly Rs 200 crore through a criminal syndicate allegedly headed by Sukesh Chandrasekhar. Based on the Delhi Police’s predicate offence, the Enforcement Directorate registered a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and launched its own investigation.
According to the ED, Sukesh allegedly used proceeds of crime to purchase expensive gifts and luxury items for several Bollywood personalities. Jacqueline Fernandez has been named in the investigation over allegations that she received gifts and financial benefits worth around Rs 5.71 crore.
The agency has alleged that the gifts included luxury handbags, high-end watches, jewellery, foreign fund transfers and vehicles purchased for family members. Investigators have also claimed that the actress continued accepting these gifts despite allegedly becoming aware of Sukesh Chandrasekhar’s criminal background. Jacqueline, however, has consistently denied any involvement in money laundering and has maintained her innocence throughout the investigation.
The legal proceedings remain ongoing, and the allegations against all accused persons are yet to be tested during the course of the trial. No final determination of guilt has been made by the court.
Jacqueline gears up for Welcome To The Jungle release
Despite the continuing legal battle, Jacqueline Fernandez remains active on the professional front. The actress will next appear in Welcome To The Jungle, the latest installment in the popular comedy franchise directed by Ahmed Khan. The film features one of the biggest ensemble casts in recent Bollywood cinema, including Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Suniel Shetty, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Disha Patani, Arshad Warsi, Jackie Shroff and several other actors.
The comedy entertainer is scheduled to release in theatres on June 26, 2026, and is expected to compete at the box office with Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock and Jason Momoa. Industry observers will be watching closely to see how the big-budget comedy performs, especially after the mixed response received by some recent multi-starrer releases.
Jacqueline was last seen in Housefull 5, directed by Tarun Mansukhani. The comedy, which reunited her with Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh, opened to mixed reviews from critics, although it managed to attract audiences during its theatrical run. With Welcome To The Jungle now approaching release, the actress is preparing for another major commercial outing even as the legal proceedings in the money laundering case continue.
