Actress Brittany Snow is opening up about one of the toughest and most transformative decisions of her life — stepping away from Hollywood.
In her new cover interview with Self magazine’s November issue, the Pitch Perfect star revealed that walking away from acting at just 23 years old wasn’t a choice — it was survival. “My life depended on it,” the 39-year-old said candidly.
Behind the Spotlight
Before taking a break, Snow had already built an impressive résumé with roles in The Pacifier, Hairspray, Guiding Light, and American Dreams. But while her star was rising, she was privately battling a severe eating disorder that nearly cost her everything.
“I mean, there was no way that I would still be here,” she admitted. “I’m trying not to be hyperbolic — but it’s true.”
Snow first entered rehab at 19 but left early to film John Tucker Must Die. She later shared her nine-year battle with anorexia in a 2007 essay for People magazine titled “My Nine-Year Struggle With Anorexia.”
The Road to Recovery
Her second stay in rehab, she recalled, was even more difficult. One of the girls there threatened to sell her story to the press — a betrayal that led Snow to leave the program and continue treatment as an outpatient.
With her parents’ support, she began a year-long recovery plan that included therapy, classes, and regular check-ins. “Rewiring my brain so I could trust myself — that was the best thing that ever happened to my recovery,” she shared.
Finding Her Way Back
After years away from the spotlight, Snow returned to Hollywood in 2012 with Pitch Perfect — a project she still holds close to her heart. “That movie was really special to me,” she said. “I didn’t think I was ever going to work again.”
Most recently, Snow starred opposite Malin Akerman in the Netflix hit The Hunting Wives, where she plays Sophie, a woman drawn into a dangerous friendship in small-town Texas. The show quickly became a streaming success, drawing over 5 million views in its first week.
Breaking the Silence
Despite her past struggles, Snow said she no longer focuses on her body when filming intimate scenes. Instead, she credits Akerman for creating a safe and collaborative environment. “A lot of men in sex scenes are focused on themselves — how they look,” she said. “With Malin, it was different. She always asked, ‘Are you OK? Do you want me to do this?’ It was full of care.”
The two recently confirmed that The Hunting Wives will return for Season 2, expected to premiere in summer 2026. Akerman told Extra that writing for the new season is already underway.
