Meghan Markle is officially back in front of the camera — and she’s loving it.
After an eight-year break from acting, the Duchess of Sussex has quietly returned to film sets for a small role in the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios movie Close Personal Friends. The film stars Lily Collins, Brie Larson, Jack Quaid, and Henry Golding, and is being directed by Jason Orley (Big Time Adolescence).
Meghan’s Return to Set
An insider confirmed to PEOPLE on Wednesday, November 5, that Meghan was spotted on the Pasadena set earlier this week and appeared completely at ease.
“Meghan was on the set today,” the insider revealed. “She seemed very relaxed and happy. She introduced herself to everyone and was very sweet and down-to-earth.”
The source added that Meghan’s part in the movie is relatively small, describing the shoot as a “gentle step” back into acting.
A studio insider told The Sun that her return marks a “massive moment” for her career:
“It’s Meghan’s way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set. Everyone involved is super excited and has been sworn to secrecy about her role.”
About ‘Close Personal Friends’
The film, announced in August, revolves around a couple who meets a celebrity pair during a trip to Santa Barbara, California — the same coastal city where Meghan and Prince Harry live with their children, Prince Archie (6) and Princess Lilibet (4).
Filming began in London in September before moving to California last month. The project brings together an A-list ensemble and promises a light, character-driven story set in the backdrop of fame, relationships, and modern friendship.
A New Chapter for Meghan
Meghan’s last major acting role was in the hit USA Network series Suits, where she starred as Rachel Zane for seven seasons until 2018 — the same year she married Prince Harry.
Since leaving the show, she’s mostly stayed behind the camera, appearing in documentaries like With Love, Meghan and focusing on her philanthropic ventures.
In a 2025 interview with PEOPLE, Meghan reflected on her acting past and her seven-year run on Suits:
“It was a time capsule for me — I still have the pencil skirt from the first episode! That’s the one thing I kept.”
When she first stepped away from acting after her engagement, she told the BBC,
“I don’t see it as giving anything up. It’s a new chapter… I feel really proud of the work I’ve done, and now it’s time to work as a team with [Harry].”
