While Alpha dominated the box office after its July 3 release, another female-led action film quietly found support from those closest to its makers. Baby Do Die Do, headlined by Huma Qureshi, may not have matched the commercial numbers of the Yash Raj Films spy thriller, but it received an emotional endorsement from filmmaker Geetu Mohandas, who praised the team behind the project with a heartfelt social media post.
Geetu, who recently directed Huma in the upcoming pan-India film Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups, celebrated the passion and belief that went into making Baby Do Die Do. Her message wasn’t focused on box office collections but on the people behind the film, calling it a victory built on trust, hard work and family.
Geetu Mohandas Pens Emotional Note For Huma Qureshi
Sharing a selfie with Huma Qureshi on Instagram, Geetu Mohandas revealed that she had watched Baby Do Die Do and wanted to express what the film meant to her personally. Rather than writing a traditional review, the filmmaker spoke about witnessing the journey of people she knows closely and seeing their efforts come alive on the big screen.
She wrote, “I just watched Baby Do Die Do!! and this isn’t a review …just what it felt like to sit there surrounded by a story built by people I know… a sister and brother who bet on each other, a partner who delivered exactly what I always knew he had in him. I wasn’t watching strangers succeed. I was watching people I care about become exactly who I always knew they’d become.”
Geetu also had special words for Huma, referring to her by Elizabeth, the character she plays in Toxic. Praising the actor’s talent, she wrote, “There is no surprise in me watching Huma. I know what she’s capable of and what she will set out to do in the future. BRAVO my Elizabeth.” The touching message reflected the strong creative bond the two have built while working together.
Praise For Saqib Saleem And Rachit Singh
The filmmaker made it clear that Baby Do Die Do represented much more than a single actor’s project. She highlighted the efforts of Huma’s brother and co-producer Saqib Saleem, describing the film as the result of a family’s collective faith in one another.
She wrote, “This isn’t just Huma’s film. It was a family’s risk, a family’s belief in each other, playing out in front of a paying audience. Well done Saqib.” Geetu also praised acting coach Rachit Singh, Huma’s boyfriend, for his contribution to the film and his work with actors.
In her post, she added, “And Rachit… I’ve seen him work with actors before, and I’ll say plainly… talent like his doesn’t come around often, and this is just the start of a fantabulous future for you. Congratulations to the entire film team for your stupendous success. @iamhumaq @saqibsaleem @rachitsingh08.”
The emotional tribute received equally heartfelt responses from the team. Huma replied, “I’m crying reading this, thank you Geetu,” while Saqib Saleem commented, “Geetu. Thank you for championing our baby.” Rachit Singh also acknowledged the appreciation, writing, “Thank you for all your love and support.”
Baby Do Die Do Faces Tough Box Office Competition
Directed by Nachiket Samant, Baby Do Die Do is produced by Huma Qureshi, Saqib Saleem and Nachiket Samant under the Saleem Siblings banner. The screenplay has been written by Jasmeet Kaur Reen, Nachiket Samant and Parveez Shaikh. The action thriller also features Sikandar Kher, Chunky Panday and several other actors in pivotal roles.
The film follows the story of a deaf and mute assassin who hears the voice of her deceased sister every time she takes someone’s life, blending psychological drama with stylised action. Despite its unique premise, the movie released alongside Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, making the box office battle particularly challenging. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Baby Do Die Do collected ₹2.22 crore net in India during its first four days in theatres.
Although the film has struggled commercially against its bigger competitor, Geetu Mohandas’ heartfelt message has reminded audiences that success is not measured by box office numbers alone. For the team behind Baby Do Die Do, the support from a close collaborator has become one of the most meaningful moments of the film’s journey so far.
